5.0 out of 5 stars Old and new hymns together
Mission Praise began as a book for Christians from different backgrounds to sing from during Billy Graham's "Mission England" campaign in 1984. It combines the best of the old traditional hymns with the most exciting new Christian music. So whether yours is a congregation of oldies willing to enjoy new trends, of youngsters wishing to explore their roots, or you're trying...

3.0 out of 5 stars Mission praise music book
This book is too big (thick) for a keyboard music rest. It would be better taller and slimmer or in two volumes.

5.0 out of 5 stars Old and new hymns together, 1 Dec 2010

Mission Praise began as a book for Christians from different backgrounds to sing from during Billy Graham's "Mission England" campaign in 1984. It combines the best of the old traditional hymns with the most exciting new Christian music. So whether yours is a congregation of oldies willing to enjoy new trends, of youngsters wishing to explore their roots, or you're trying to encourage young and old to worship together and learn from each other, this is the book for you. There are good indexes, of first lines, of themes, and of hymns for times in the Christian year. The accompaniments are suitable for keyboard or guitar. I have bought the latest edition because I had worn out the previous one; I always consult it when deciding which hymns to choose to go with a sermon I have planned, even if the congregation use a different edition or a different hymnbook; if you have paid for a licence to CCLI, you can always print them out or use an overhead projector.

Love the selection of new hymns. My only gripe is that the book is quite large and difficult to keep open when playing.

5.0 out of 5 stars Arguably the most complete hymn book available, 18 Feb 2010

Although tremendously heavy, so a no-no for a choir member unless the choir stalls have high enough book ledges, this has almost every hymn/worship songe, old or new, you will ever need, with a good (though not always complete) choice of hymn tunes for those which have several tunes. It's the one hymn book you can find almost all you are looking for, without having to refer to a number of other books. It's strongly bound with a good hard cover and good quality paper. Despite its size it opens readily - and stays open without having to bend the spine back or using pegs. You can rely on it to stay on the music ledge without falling on the floor or crashing onto your hands!

Lots of great content, but this book is so big it is very difficult to use. A more considerate publisher would have bound it in two volumes.

4.0 out of 5 stars Great resource, 11 April 2010

Huge number of hymns, both old & new. Not absolutely comprehensive, so will need to be supplemented by others. Paper slightly thin and volume is too thick to balance on music stand of piano, but still a good buy.

3.0 out of 5 stars Where do you go from here?, 27 Feb 2010

The new 25th anniversary edition must surely have reached the limits, and the size is becoming unmanagable. Whilst it is good to have a blend of old and new hymns, the expanded editions of this hymnbook inevitably concentrate on the newer hymns and songs. Surely the next step must be to winnow out some of the material that is less used and poorer quality. I also wonder whether churches can really afford to keep updating their hymnbooks. Has this one lost its way?

5.0 out of 5 stars New updated version of old favourite, 30 Dec 2013

No more need to take various books when I'm on piano rota. All the hymns I need are now in one place and even though it's a thick volume, it sits well on the book stand of the keyboard.

3.0 out of 5 stars Disappointing paper quality, 18 Nov 2013
Verified Purchase(What is this?)

Fantastic amount of music however the book itself is extremely heavy to use on piano and the quality of paper the music is printed on is very flimsy making it difficult to page turn especially when playing.
