5.0 out of 5 stars Homely, earthy and realistic cooking
This is a great book for those that love home-style cooking.
So far I am impressed with the recipes that I have made which include: beetroot soup, poached eggs on portobello mushrooms with goats cheese, buttermilk chicken with smashed sweet potatoes and the monkfish with saffron sauce. You can tell the recipes are obviously well-worn favourites of hers, cooked - and...

3.0 out of 5 stars Beautiful... but don't want to cook from it!
When I first got this, I thought it was lovely; it would make a great gift as it's very elegantly put together and looks much more expensive than it is. I enjoyed reading Sophie Dahl's potted biography sections, which separate the seasonal chapters, although I'm not sure I'll ever read those bits again, and the pictures are very stylish.

But... when it came...

2.0 out of 5 stars It is NOT a cookery book!!!, 9 Jun. 2010

It's a very nice book if you want to know a bit more about Sophie dahl, she writes really well and it's very agreable to go trough the book as the pictures are nice and stylish. HOWEVER, the recipes are really simple, nothing somebody with a bit of commun sense and idea woudn't do! Roast vegetables: no need to be a genius!

So yes it is a nice book to have on your bedside but not really to cook with. I purchased it on the same time as Pastry from Michel Roux which is an absolutly amazing book and what a difference. I'm french, so when i buy a cookery book i buy it for its recipes not for the author,as interesting as it can be sometimes. Then, i suppose, it probably just depends on what you are looking for.

3.0 out of 5 stars BOUGHT AS A GIFT, 10 Nov. 2010

Dunno really............Reckoned my 18 yr old nephew would like it for his bday.

And I suppose he really is a bit young for Nigella, so opted for Sophie.

He is a keen cook anyway........and apparently he has not put the book down

This book is amazing! It is so beautifully laid out - a real girly book. So far everything I have cooked from the book has been even more than delicious - I am so excited about this book that I cant stop cooking from it.

I have got a two year old and a 5 week old baby and still couldnt stop myself from cooking 2 recipes from it yesterday and am doing another one tonight.

I can 150% recommend this book - I salute you Jo Pratt.
