5.0 out of 5 stars A Brill! Model Book
First of all, this book is not a modeling manual, there are other books for this very purpose, what it is, is however pretty good : - let me explain :)

If you are either into scale model making or collecting, then you'll most probably be aware that there are several manufacturers of model kits, Airfix, Revell and Tamiya for example. While visiting model stes...

3.0 out of 5 stars A nice coffea-table book about old plastic modells
I'm a bit annoyed about this book, the title promised something the book couldn't deliver. It's a brief history of the biggest/oldest injection-kit manufacturer with pictures of some "classic" or plain old models. Mixed with the personal thoughts of the author. And with a better ( more correct) title i think it's a fun and entertaining book. But as a "How to...

While visiting model stes and forums, you know doubt come across other (perhaps ) not so famous or even, now defunct manufacturers - eg. Aurora, Matchbox and others. Here's where this book comes into its own.

Each manufacturer has a chapter on its own, along with box covers and photos of completed kits.

You may have heard of Airfix, and indeed made a kit, eg Spitfire 1/72 Mk1a is particularly well known, but do you know about Airfix's history? There are books on Airfix around, but I've frequently found it difficult to find any information regarding the history of the other companies. Yes I have heard of both Revell and Tamiya, and have purchased kits from each, but Im not too hot on their prosepective histories, I know Revell originally came from the US and Tamiya from Japan, but that's about all.

I would describe this as as a "dipping in book", one that you "dip" into frequently and lose track of time with.

I have read other modelling books, Airfix included, but as this deals with other companies aswell as Airfix and the above, it is up there with the better ones.

I was fortunate to see this in a discount book shop and regarded it as an essential purchase, so needlessly to say I bought it.

I can only thoroughly recommend it
