If you are a lover of fine artwork or just a fan of the lord of the rings movie the this is an essential purchase.
One of the reasons the movie was such a big hit is the graphics and scenery in it. This book gives every detail about the graphics- all the landscapes- from rivendale to the shire, all the props- from gandalfs pipes to Aragorns sword and Gimli's armour, all of the Mordor and Isangaard army- from Orcs to the Cave troll and finally all of the outfits- from Arwen's dress to Saruman's cloak.
Not only are they all in the book, but it tells you everything you need to know, it gives you concept sketches, detailed sketches, models and even photos from the movies. A very nice touch is the comments from the art designers about progress and the final outcome.
Futhermore, it is all presented fantastically, so it is easy to flick through and easy to read.
Overall this book is very interesting at least and sensational at best. A brilliant book which anyone who remotely likes lord of the rings or artwork deserves to buy this book

I am so happy I purchased this book. If you were as stunned, overwhelmed by the beautiful landscapes, costumes, effects, and settings of The Lord of the Rings trilogy then you have to buy this book. It has a plethora of stunning stills from the film, photographs on set, sketches that made it into the film and others that didn't, not to mention scores of information and interviews from the artists, including Alan Lee and John Howe. I know for a fact that I will always look through this book throughout the years because it is abundant in beautiful images and fascinating insights on the films.
The highlights of The Art of the Fellowship have to be how they created Rivendell, Moria, the Balrog, Lothlorien, and Argonath on the Great River. I cannot recommend this product more. Basically if you love LOTR more than just as an entertaining film but for it's achievements in cinema, then get your hands on this and the other two as soon as you can.
The authors have understood what is required of the book, and delivered it in a big way, offer up page after page of wonderful artwork and designs, supported by explanatory text. It's nicely bound, and matches well with similar books produced for the other two movies in the trilogy. The prices for these books seems to rise and fall, but there are plenty of inexpensive used copies around.

I'm a big fan of Tolkien and The Lord of the Rings so the 'Art of' books were a must. I bought the visual companions but they were very basic and more for children, where these are wonderfully detailed, a must for any LotR fan. Beautiful books you can keep and flick through forever.
