4.0 out of 5 stars Shame About the Editing, 21 Sep 2001
By A Customer
This review is from: The Very Hungry Caterpillar: And Other Stories (Audio Cassette)
I bought the tape because my children had enjoyed the Eric Carle books so much. They're now getting into other media and I thought the tape would be good to focus their concentration, i.e. on stories they already know well. The choice of Roger McGough and Juliet Stevenson as narrators is inspired. Their voices are perfect for soothing story-reading. The use of background music is also pleasant and doesn't distract from the story-telling itself. However, where the tape loses a star for me is in the editing. Why do the stories all appear on Side One of the tape with the background music taking up all of Side Two? Don't they understand kids at all? They don't have the patience to listen to 'classical-type' music while waiting for the stories to come on so what does Mum end up doing? You guessed it: rewinding/fast-forwarding to make sure the tape is always ready to start at Side One. Come on technical guys - get real. Think kids!
