Thomas Neville must decide whether to choose for the Angels, or the Demons in this, the final volume of The Crucible.
This being a book by Sara Douglass, however, things are never quite as they seem!
As in the other two books in the series, the setting is an 'alternate' history - people who are knowledgeable about the time period may be confused by seemingly 'incorrect' facts, but these are deliberate, to provide a suitable setting for a fictional story.
If you enjoyed the rest of Ms Douglass's books, I recommend this one, but read the rest of 'The Crucible' first!

The Crucible trilogy is as excellent as any other Sara Douglass title. This book completes the trilogy with a bang! I could not put the book down, you will be intrigued from beginning to the end.
Read the first two before this book, as it makes the journey much more interesting. A great and unpredictable book. Sara Douglass should never stop writing!

Thomas knows that the end is near. The day of his choice is closer, and still our hero is lost as to whom he will choose. The way of the demons, or the way of the angels?
A gripping read with a fantastic conclusion, (and a few tears here and there) this is the best book of the series, but read the first two books so they won't be spoilt...

Sadly with Sara Douglass no longer with us, we won't see any new novels but this book and the others in the series were a good read and not far off the greatest fantasy writers like Raymond E Feist and Michael Moorcock. Mixing up real history with a little fantasy is a real winner with me. Brilliantly done and compares well with similar efforts like the Troy trilogy by David Gemmel. Highly recommend the whole series of which this book is a member of

I has read the AxisTrilogy and The Wayfarers Redemption and really enjoyed both trilogies.I was not sure if The Crucible would be the same. It was in fact excellent a little slow to start in book 1 but once it got going wow I really loved it. The whole concept is really out there and I think this would make an excellent film.
