This review is from: Fontana Modern Masters - Freud (Paperback)
This book, by the late Richard Wollheim, is an excellent introduction to Freud's ideas. It traces the evolution of Freudian thought, showing that nothing was set in stone and that few of his ideas were exempt from revision. Were Freud alive today, his theories would have continued to develop. The book also dispels the myth of Freud's complete fixation upon sex as the driving force behind all human activity. Wollheim's style is formal and needs a certain amount of concentration, but if you are a studying to be a psychotherapist, you will find this book a rewarding and insightful read.

5.0 out of 5 stars A philosopher' s take on Freud ' s contribution to human understanding, 11 Nov 2012
Wollheim was a philosopher that applied the rigour of philosophical analysis to the findings of psychotherapy and the application of psychoanalytic concepts to art in general and painting in particular. His essay that prefaces this book is worth reading carefully as Wollheim distills the philosophical implications of Freud's findings on subconscious actions.
Throughout the writing is clear and concise. Best introduction to Freud.
