Continuing story of Charles Thoroughgood, the principal character in 'A Breed of Heroes'. He is now a trainee MI6 agent and the same 'insider' flavour is apparent, just like the first book, though the main story may well be fiction, the procedural details certainly smack of authenticity. An excellent tale nonetheless, especially if you enjoy the Cold War genre. This book was meant to be the first in a trilogy of such stories, hope that's true but he's waiting a long time to produce part two!

5.0 out of 5 stars A LEGACY WORTH HAVING, 29 Sep 2001
By A Customer
This review is from: Legacy (Hardcover)
Legacy, ALAN JUDD's latest spy novel is written with the precision and economy of a case officer's 'contact note.' It reeks of authenticity as intelligence tradecraft and bureaucratic, civil service bungling are interwoven. The well-observed characters are credible and seem to have lives of their own (and will surely give wry amusement to his former colleagues.) Concentrating on an extraordinary revelation made to a tyro spook on the Secret Intelligence Service (MI6) Intelligence Officers New Entry Course (IONEC) at the quaintly named 'Castle' training base. It is a an engaging yarn and contrasts favourably with RICHARD TOMLINSON's [...] the 'Big Breach.'

Concentrating on an extraordinary- and potentially devastating - revelation made to Charles Thorougood, a tyro MI6 spook on the Secret Intelligence Service (MI6) Intelligence Officers New Entry Course (IONEC) at the quaintly named 'Castle' training base. It is a an engaging yarn and contrasts favourably with RICHARD TOMLINSON's self-serving, the 'Big Breach.
