I've always enjoyed van Lawick's documentaries and books. He's one of a handful of writers about Africa's wildlife who enable you to live an African adventure through his eyes and words. If I can't always be there myself, his films and books (this one on the same subject as one of his famous films) allow me to vicariously enjoy the excitement I remember from my African trips. I have a large library of African wildlife books and was glad to be able to find this 1973 paperback just recently. Wild dogs aren't as obviously attractive as the members of the cat family for instance, but their family and pack life is absorbing. A marvellous narrative of wildlife observation, happily free of anthropomorphism.
