there's too many languages in europe for them to put subtitles on them anymore. that's why many countries are teaching english. linguists estimate that within one hundred years most languages will be barely spoken excet a few of course , and english will be at the top as even the chinese teach their kids english. it's wise for portugal to go this way too. although spanish is one that will survive and it's similiar to portugeuse and many people in the u.s are bilingual in spanish /english even.
it is everything an economic issue, this time Brazil is one of the most emerging countries may change this theory. One thing is for sure I speak good English, Spanish and of course my mother tongue. Could an Englishman have a level of knowledge? think about it!
