Certainly no "Hamburger Hill", 7 Jan 2009
I had high hopes for this movie, and although it kept me entertained, it wasnt as good as I hoped.
The story revolves around a group of soldiers, nicknamed the "Tunnel Rats".
Their job is to enter the vast network of tunnels dug by the Vietcong and clear them out.
Due to the subject of the film, much is filmed as though underground and therefore very dark. This often annoys me on films, and this is no exception. The dark scenes often lack enough tension to pull them off, although there a few moments that draw you back in.
This film isnt one for the weak stomached. Not as gory as some war films, but still has some moments that will turn you green. As mentioned, the research in this film must have been last on the list. The uniforms arent right, the weapons handling leaves some to be desired and the general feel of the film is a bit lazy.
I wont give the ending away, but just to say I dont recall seeing a war film with an ending like this one. Lets just say there is no chance of a sequel!
To summerise. A decent enough watch, but I wouldnt rush out to watch again, plot is very basic, acting is ok but no stand out characters.

Awful, 30 Nov 2008
Just watching a rental copy now - can't believe anyone would attempt something this dire after all the Vietnam movies of the 80's. Costume dept. should be lined up against a wall and shot for a start. Clearly no military advisor on the production team..NO WAIT, APPARENTLY THERE IS! Some German fella, obviously not a Vietnam Vet or even someone with the vaguest incling of how it was over there. Director probably visited the Cu Chi tunnels on holiday and decided this would be a good idea for a film - such a poor effort though. Every grunt with an M60 fires the thing one handed from the hip Rambo style - PLEASE! Although it can be fired from the shoulder whilst standing (like it's predecessor the BAR) it is most definitely a two handed job - or as in my case, tripod mounted (and it's a lot of fun I can assure you, unlike this crap!)

a good opportunity wasted ..... , 7 Jan 2009
i was hoping that this movie would live up to its promise as advertised ,it failed miserably , DO NOT BELIEVE THE BUMF on the cover of this dvd , which actually states that it is up there with platoon , apocalypse now etc , it is not good enough to wipe the boots of those movies . This movie could and should have been a testament to the men of both sides who fought in and around places such as cu chi , known for the extensive tunnel complexes built there by the vietcong , and the terrible warfare which raged in and around these tunnel complexes , it fails terribly and was for me such a poor storyline .Please dont do what i do and waste your money , if you really want to see a good vietnam war movie then spend your money on APOCALYPSE NOW , HAMBURGER HILL , or the oliver stone trilogy of vietnam movies like the classic full on vietnam war movie PLATOON and the two more story/drama related vietnam movies BORN ON THE FOURTH OF JULY and the great HEAVEN SENT , all these movies are good quality viewing on the subject ,or even the christian bale movie RESCUE DAWN is well worth a watch .... such a good idea wasted ....
