DVD Description

On the face of it, the Harper family seem quite normal, dentist Ben Harper (Robert Lindsay) is long suffering husband to control freak Susan (Zoe Wannamaker) and their very demanding children, Nick, Janey and Michael. But step inside their chaotic Chiswick home and witness all the comic dramas and relationship tangles as they unfold.

The seventh series of this phenomenally successful family comedy features more hysterical misadventures of the dysfunctional Harper household. Includes all nine episodes.

When a mystery man arrives asking for Janey – Susan finally discovers the identity of Kenzo’s father. Roger and Abi's marriage announcement gives Susan the idea to renew her marriage vows despite protests from Ben. A death in the dentist’s chair is not very good for business, but, as Ben discovers, it isn’t very good for your private life either. Michael succeeds in placing the whole family on The Weakest Link, but Anne Robinson raises more difficult questions than might have been expected.

Episodes: "The Ego Has Landed"; "Four Affairs And A Funeral"; "Once More With Feeling"; "Dutch Art And Dutch Courage"; "Susan Of Troy"; "One Of The Boys"; "Abi Ever After"; "Breaking Up Ain't Hard To Do"; "Life Begins At Fifty".

Starring: Robert Lindsay, Zoë Wanamaker, Daniela Denby-Ashe, Gabriel Thomson, Siobhan Hayes, Keiron Self, Rhodri Meilir.

Synopsis

The seventh series of the popular situation comedy in which Robert Lindsay plays put-upon dentist Ben Harper. Ben tries valiantly to juggle his professional life with a chaotic home life with his demanding wife Susan (Zoe Wanamaker) and their children.

4.0 out of 5 stars Still a good laugh..., 7 Oct 2007
Having seen every series of My Family, I believe that the programme was never quite the same after the departure of Nick (the eldest son), who in my mind was the funniest character. Following Nick's departure at the end of series 4 (bar 1 episode in series 5), he was shortly replaced by the character Alfie Butts (Nick's friend), and more frequent appearances of Abi and Roger. The programme has still maintained much of its comic element, however I am a believer that the first three series saw the programme at its funniest. Another small problem with the later series (series 5/6 onwards) is that, not only does Nick leave home, but Janey too leaves home and Michael turns into more of an adult. This, for me, slightly defeats the object of the programme, which is making fun of everyday family life. With no children, I found that the programme became more of a partnership of Ben (the father) and Susan (the mother), and lost its origional family feel to an extent. To make up for this slight deficiency of everyday family incidences that could be made fun of, the plots of the later episodes have become more far fetched and the writers have perhaps started to run out of the simple but hilarious ideas which made the first few series so hilarious.

Despite all this, the programme, as I say, is still a good laugh and has maintained most of its comedy. I still find them great fun to watch so, by all means, I would reccomend My Family Series 7 to anyone in search of a good Laugh.

Hope I have helped.

5.0 out of 5 stars still going strong..., 17 Sep 2007
By Ms. H. J. Johnston "h_j" (somerset, england) - See all my reviews

My Family follows the ups and downs (primarily downs) of those in the Harper family. There's Ben (Robert Lindsay) - a long suffering father, husband and dentist. There's Susan (Zoe Wanamaker) - Ben's wife who has become a controlling mother hen. Their three children Nick (though he doe not feature in this series which is a shame) Janey (who I am glad to report DOES feature in every episode of this latest series with her son Kenzo) and Michael (who is still willing to sell family members on ebay for a fair price). In this series, we see Kenzo's father's identity finally revealed, Kenzo tries his hand at child acting, Ben and Susan's relationship is re-vowed and Abi and Richard (two additional oddly amusing "creatures" who have been brought in to replace the sadly missed humour that came wih Nick's character) finally wed. All around laughs, with a promise that this series has recovered some of the magic that was lost in the previous few. Worth a buy.
