Synopsis

John Nettles stars as Det. Sgt. Jim Bergerac, a divorced recovering alcoholic who is working for the Bureau des Etrangers, maintaining law and order in Jersey. His investigations involve the affairs of people not resident on the island, but he also regularly encounters members of the island's millionaire community, connected with his cases. This DVD set contains all the episodes from series three of the much-loved detective drama: "Ninety Per Cent Proof", "A Hole In The Bucket", "Holiday Snaps", "Ice Maiden", "Come Out Fighting", "A Touch Of Eastern Promise", "A Cry In The Night", "The Company You Keep", "Tug Of War", "House Guests".

Bergerac was one of those programmes I enjoyed watching when I was younger, so it was nice to relive my childhood through this box set. This series contains some excellent episodes including Ninety Per Cent Proof, Holiday Snaps and House Guests. One of the episodes Ice Maiden marks the first appearence of jewel thief Philippa Vale superbly played by Lisa Goddard. This series like the 1st and 2nd has a slightly dated feel about it especially some of the 80's clothes, but this adds to its charm. The series would go on to reach its peak with series 4 and 5. Once again the only let down is the lack of special features - hence the 4 star rating. Hopefully John Nettles will recond some more commentary tracks like on the first series dvd. All in all a great piece of classic tv nostalgia.

I loved this 3rd series of Bergerac. At first I had to adjust to seeing John Nettles so young, after watching him for years in Midsomer Murders. The characters were interesting too - it was intriguing to see so many actors so young in that series, compared with how they are now over 20 years later. I have been disappointed though, with the abrupt end of each episode, which must have been the style of the day. Glad they give a bit more explanation of the outcome of things these days, but aside from that, I am glad I found out about the Bergerac series.

I had watched the whole set of Barnaby (and then Morse and Lewis)and I was interested in watching the younger John Nettles.
Well, it's just OK, you may like some of the characters, the Jersey "ambiance", but
there's not real plot!
you've got a murder or a robbery and most of the time you know from the start who the culprit is.
(So far I've watched only part of the second season)
In my opinion, better watch Morse,Barnaby or Lewis
