DVD Description

The exploits of Miles, Anna, Egg, Milly and Warren became one of BBC2's biggest hits when it was broadcast in 1996. Now for the first time This Life will be available on DVD for everyone to enjoy the fights, sex and arguments all over again. Follow the burgeoning careers of these five newly qualified solicitors and the house they share in South London: Anna and Miles have some history and it's obvious there is still some attraction. The only problem is that neither of them can admit it and seem intent on winding the other up as much as they can. Milly and Egg are deeply in love but their relationship is put under stress as Egg realises that he doesn't want to be a solicitor and Milly begins an affair with her boss. Warren is gay and in therapy to help him come to terms with his sexuality. He is terrified of letting his family know as they wouldn't understand. When his ex-army brother finds out he has trouble understanding as well.

Synopsis

This Life is the hugely successful drama series that follows the turbulent personal and working lives of 5 twenty-something solicitors who share a house in South London.

5.0 out of 5 stars Nothing compares, 9 May 2006
I would disagree with the above comment- not with its praise for this great series but for comparing its brilliance to US dramas- which I actually think is an insult to This Life. The reason it is so incredibly unlike US dramas is the reason for its brilliance in my opinion and why I love it. It is not cheesy, gossy or fake, the cast do not look like perfect models/cheerleader types, the sets look 'real' and the music is classic British indie tracks from the 90s. This is gritty- both in storylines and characters personalities. It feels 'real'. It actually feels like you are spying in on them half the time and thus is exciting from the start of each episode to the end. It perfectly sums up young middleclass professionals, the stress of work and the excitement of their social life. There are ups and downs for all characters, but your love them all and wish them the best, in particular Miles and Anna who you are just gunning for and will wait with baited breath to see if they ever do make it back together again.
The last episode ends with explosions and is clearly set up with a next series sin mind, so the biggest let down with this DVD is the knowledge that nothing followed...

5.0 out of 5 stars Era Defining TV, 1 Mar 2006
By A. Montgomery "person who likes lists" (Malvern, UK) - See all my reviews
(REAL NAME)
Wonderful nineties BBC TV series that follows the fortunes of a group of young solicitors and their friends and family. It launched the careers of many of its stars and became one of the defining series of the nineties. Considered outrageous at the time for its explicit scenes of both hetrosexual and homosexual sex, it still stands up as a great piece of intelligent, funny and sometimes moving drama, the likes of which we have only seen from the US in recent years.
