Amazon.co.uk Review
Now firmly established as one of the top-rated television dramas, by its third year CSI: Crime Scene Investigation is a show positively glowing with confidence. Even when individual cases seem either too contrived or too easily resolved, the indefatigable night shift at the Las Vegas PD crime lab always look the part, solving conundrums and discovering microscopic damning evidence while, apparently, never shedding their own loose hair or skin cells all over the supposedly quarantined crime scenes. In reality, Catherine Willows' flowing blonde locks would contaminate any evidence she collected, but in the world of CSI only the bad guys leave body parts behind--the CSIs themselves are so good they're positively pristine.

The 23 episodes of season 3 on this five-disc set present more deliciously bizarre situations for the problem-solving sleuths: cannibalism, snuff movies, dwarfs, death while drag racing, bodies falling from the sky, and various dismemberments all tax the team's acumen. These are all double or multiple-case episodes, though in a characteristic trick of the writing sometimes apparently unrelated murders turn out to be connected (or vice versa, as in "Blood Lust," in which a road-accident victim is not what he seems, and the death of the driver at the hands of an angry mob is made all the more tragic). The mix of genuine forensic science with the glossiest Jerry Bruckheimer production values, plus the virtues of a good ensemble cast headed by William Peterson's modern-day Sherlock Holmes, remains as compelling as ever. --Mark Walker

5.0 out of 5 stars CSI: Crime Scene Investigation Season 3, 28 Jul 2005
To start with, I really, really like CSI. To the point where I'm almost killing the store clerks if they haven't got the one I want in stock. I'm almost a crime scene myself. If you don't like CSI or have never heard of it before, try and watch one episode, particularly of the third season, and see if it makes a difference.

The third season of CSI is the most intriguing one out of the four that have been released. Better than the previous two and the fourth (what is up with William Peterson's beard?), it is definitely the one to buy. There are 23 episodes, which ids good value for money. The extra features, whilst not numerous, are interesting and will hold your attention easily for the time that they are on, probably because they are so short. That is my only complaint though.

With some excellent episodes and a revisit to Lady Heather's, one of the highlights of Season Two, this season is really the one to buy. I particularly enjoyed the episode 'A little murder', concerning the murder of a dwarf in a Las Vegas convention. Clever and funny without being cruel, it was excellent. Similarly, the episode 'Blood Lust' was very good. A teenager is run over and the mob who are watching innocently from the bar across the road believe he is going to drive off when, in fact, he is reaching for his radio to call the police. When they kill the man, they are all suspects for his murder. An interesting episode that clearly shows the sheen and class of CSI that makes it just that little bit better than NY and Miami, i highly advise you to buy this.

Really, I advise you to buy it.

5.0 out of 5 stars The Third Year is The Human Element, 10 Jul 2004
Personally, I would have to say that this is the best season of Crime Scene Investigation to date, even better than the fourth year. The CSI DVDs are often criticised for having too few special features, but with the features added to the complete season, they become more of a bonus.
To have the option of purchasing the entire set of 23 third-year episodes in a great package like this for a price of just £45 is undeniably as good as it gets.

It was the third year, where a long overdue Eric Szmanda and Robert David Hall were finally given opening credit status, which gave them more involvement, and in the case of Szmanda, more storylines as Greg Sanders - he goes 'undercover' for Grissom, and even manages to get blown up by Catherine by the time the season is out.

It was also the year where 'the human element,' as the CSIs put it, is thrust into the episodes more than ever;
Grissom, following on from the events of Season 2, is still having problems with his hearing and is choosing to keep this a secret from the other CSIs.
Catherine's life and family are effected to the extreme; she discovers something unexpected about Sam Braun and the rocky on-off relationship with her ex-husband reaches an extreme conclusion in the incredible 61-minute episode, 'Lady Heather's Box', which also sees Grissom cross paths with Melinda Clarke's (Julie Cooper from 'The O.C.') Lady Heather again...

Sara takes a brief break from Grissom-loving, but is her boyfriend Hank being honest with her?
Of course Warrick and Nick are around too - this year Warrick is affected by a shooting near his old neighbourhood.

Season 3 should be seen as the most novelty season yet of CSI, with episodes like 'A Little Murder', 'Abra Cadavar', 'Lucky Strike' and 'Precious Metal' exploring the world of dwarfs, magicians, vampires and even robot wars.

Mix in more betrayal, homicide staging, lies, wrongly accused suspects and convicts and a satisfying amount of development for each of our favourite 8, and you've got CSI Season 3.
