Nagios: System and Network Monitoring shows how to configureand use Nagios, an open source system and network monitoringtool. Nagios makes it possible to continuously monitornetwork services (SMTP, POP3, HTTP, NNTP, PING, etc.), hostresources (processor load, disk and memory usage, runningprocesses, log files, etc.), and environmental factors (suchas temperature). When Nagios detects a problem, itcommunicates the information to the sys admin via email,pager, SMS, or other user-defined method; current statusinformation, historical logs, and reports can also beaccessed via a web browser. Nagios System and NetworkMonitoring covers the Nagios core, all standard Nagiosplug-ins and selected third-party plug-ins, and showsreaders how to write their own plug-ins. The book coversNagios 2.0 and is backwards compatible with earlierversions.

About the Author

Wolfgang Barth has written several books for professional network administrators, including Firewall (Suse Press), Network Analysis (Suse Press), and Backup Solutions with Linux (Open Source Press). He is a professional system administrator with considerable experience using Nagios.

Book covers Nagios2. It's easy to follow and let you know about an important features of Nagios. The beginning could be bit more better, but overall it's good book. You should be able to build small and medium size monitoring environment after reading and that what you may expect after that kind of book. There are some more adv. topics, but if you already know how to run it and configure in your environment you wont get know much more. I can recommend to anyone who don't really know how to start and configure Nagios
