Product Description

nio is a new line of defence against the loss or theft of valuable items such as mobile phones, laptops, briefcases, car keys and data sticks. nio is designed to work with almost any Bluetooth enabled, mobile phone, Blackberry, or Smartphone (see www.bluenio.com/compatibility for more details). To use nio simply attach your nio tag to any valuable item. An alarm is sounded on both the nio tag and the mobile phone if the tagged item moves beyond a set distance from you and your mobile device. This distance is called the security zone. nio has a simple and intuitive interface with which you can create security zones for different, tagged items. nio can also be used to protect your mobile phone. By carrying a nio tag with you (for example when attached to car keys) if your phone is left behind nio will alarm in just the same way as if a tagged item had moved outside your security zone! nio is your new gadget guardian. Each nio comes with; 1 tag, quick start guide, UK power adapter, mini USB cable, reset device. Once purchased, you will need to download nio for your mobile device by going to http://www.bluenio.com/download.

Overall I think this is a great little gadget. In fact I could have done with one on my umbrella this morning - I left it at my daughter's school and got soaked halfway home! Before you buy however, make sure you can use your phone whilst nio is connected to it.

Good Points
Delivery from Amazon was speedy. I ordered it at lunchtime and it was delivered by lunchtime the next day.
The box is smart looking. It looks expensive!
nio itself is very light and about the size of a small box of matches so it will not make a set of keys too big for your pocket.
It was simple to connect to my phone. The instructions are easy to follow and in fact it took less time than the instructions said it might.
I like the reset pin - it saves having to go and find that elusive paperclip in the kitchen drawers!

Not so Good Point
It said on the nio website that my phone (Nokia 6300) supports nio. Well 'yes' and 'no' - it does work well on my phone but I can't do anything else other than receive incoming calls whilst nio is connected. I have to disconnect nio if I want to send or read a text or access my phone book/make a call. This is a faff.

My Advice
Charge the nio before you do anything otherwise you get halfway through reading the set up instructions before you realise you can't do anything until it is charged!
Download the nio software from the internet on your phone. Much easier than doing it via your pc/laptop.
Would be good if the instructions explained the difference between low/medium & high risk zones. On my phone, with the zone set to high, it alarmed at about 5m.

This product would make a great stocking filler.

I absolutely love this gadget! I have already found masses of ways to use it and wish it had been around years ago - I would have saved myself a fortune and a lot of hassle and heartache. I have a Nokia E71 and it works really well. It is a smart looking piece of kit and is easy to use.

Would be a great stocking filler for anybody with the slightest interest in gadgets. Shame it only comes in black - florescent pink would be good be a great addition

A friend recommended this product to me after he lost his keys. Now he attaches his nio tag to his keys and thinks he won't lose them again.

I was sceptical at first that the alarm would go off all the time and I'd be too irritated by the alarm to use it. However, I found I can change the sensitivity settings on the alarm so it suits me.

It seems to work fine on my Nokia E71.

I would recommend it to any scatter brains. It is an ideal give for Christmas.

I've just received the Nio, but it is the older version and not the newer 2.0 version which is smaller and blue with updated features. See the [...] website for details of the newest version of this product before buying here.

Protecting my phone - and my sanity 30 Nov 2009
By B. Vu - Published on Amazon.com
I read about nio in several gadget blogs, and finally I couldn't resist the urge to try it. I'm not the most tech competent person, but the installation was very simple and straight-forward on my Blackberry Curve.

I initially bought it with a theft mentality, but actually it's come in handy more on a day-to-day basis for me. It saves me time when I'm phone-hunting around the house, and also has reminded me to bring my phone with me when I'm running off to work without it.

While I've not actually left my phone anywhere out and about yet, I do enjoy the peace of mind that having nio on my keys gives me. I tend to travel a lot so instead of being paranoid when I'm in crowded public transport, I can trust that the alarm will go off if anyone gets my phone away from me.

Only issue is that my schedule isn't very predictable, so I've not taken advantage of the calendar feature a whole lot. I tend to leave nio on for large chunks of the day, but I don't mind having to charge it up more often than if I only used it for certain periods. Overall I think it's a tremendous help to have a nio as someone who relies on my phone a fair amount (well who doesn't these days?), and I can see this being extremely useful for company Blackberrys especially.
Saved my life! 3 Dec 2009
By Rosemary Weinglass - Published on Amazon.com
This is an easy to install gadget that saved my life today. I was carrying many shopping bags, and didn't see that I had left my phone where I was sitting at the mall food court. The alarm sounded when I got a short distance away, and I quickly went back for the phone. I lose phones, so this is the perfect solution for me. My mind is now at ease since this gadget worked for me already. It was well worth the investment, as I can't afford to lose the data in my phone. I can think of many other uses for the Nio, and it would make a great gift.
Worth the investment 29 Nov 2009

I've accidentally left my phone on public transportation and in restaurants. I never realize until later and then have to go through quite a bit of trouble getting it back. This gadget saves me the time and money spent on retrieving my phone. Great gadget.

I've been looking for this kind of solution for a very long time - my wife keeps leaving her cell at home. Unfortunately mine was Dead on Arrival and had to be sent back. Still going to try again when it works with iPhone.

Now I don't have to worry about losing my cell phone again. I lost it once before and it was such a pain to try to get all the data back. This is a great gadget.
