Product Description

THE NEXT GENERATION OF ELECTRIC GUITAR STRINGS ARE HERE. THE REST ARE HISTORY.

D’Addario NYXL guitar strings will bend further, sing louder, and stay in tune better than any string you’ve played before. Envisioned, perfected, and manufactured by D’Addario in New York, this newly engineered, break-resistant, high-carbon steel core and plain steel alloy delivers a whole new level of freedom, confidence, and power. NYXL’s provide more strength and 131% greater tuning stability by utilising a completely reinvented wire drawing process coupled with a revolutionary “fusion twist” process for the plain steels. The reformulated nickel plated string windings have greater magnetic properties resulting in higher output and enhanced mid-range frequency response for more presence and crunch.

I'm really impressed with these strings, from the colour-coded ends (so that you don't get them mixed up), to the 'tight' sound they produce. I'm not that much of a serious musician, so my ears aren't tuned in the the differences between different strings, but they sound lovely and new at the moment - time will tell how long that lasts, but 'so far, so good'.

I strung them onto a Jackson Charvel - the bass string was slightly wider than the previous one, and I had to make adjustments with an allen key to get it to fit through the metal bar at the top of the neck, but I suspect that I might be the only one to have that kind of problem.

Really nice strings so far - I have high hopes that they'll last longer than the usual ones :)

Edit 16-08-14: Second impressions confirm the optimistic nature of the initial ones: the strings stay in tune really well; they seem to be easier to tune, as well - the strings never drop unpredictably when twisting the pegs, and feel very stable. They're a pleasure to pluck..

These have been on my Gibson Les Paul for a week now and show no signs of dulling. They have a great, bright sound and I do play guitar a lot at home. The light gauge guitar strings are a pleasure to play, as opposed to the tow ropes I have on my basses.

These strings are in the upper mid-range, price-wise but do represent very good value for money when bought from amazon (or a couple of their partner sellers), so I can happily recommend that you try them if you haven't already. Neat packaging makes them a nice gift.

The poackage quote: "D’Addario NYXL guitar strings will bend further, sing louder, and stay in tune better than any string you’ve played before."

I do have to say these strings are nice and comfortable, seem hard-wearing and durable as strings go. Always wipe your strings down properly after playing for a longer life.

I'm a bit too long in the tooth to just believe any old hype regarding strings. I'm a guitar tech at a UK festival so its hard work to convince me. Well that and I like what I like which have been Dr Strings and Elixir's. Both of these have served me well. I'm always open to new things though and will try them. Now I've tried every conceivable variant of modern string technology and before I start I'm as well as saying I hated D'Addario strings. Never saw the attraction. I've tried Ernies latest offerings, M steels and cobalts and they whilst making your guitar louder make it into a treble squeak fest. So... the guitar in question. An Ibanez RG550 with Bare Knuckle warpigs in. I won't say as set up was a breeze, it never is with a floating trem, but it was dealt with and the relief and action checked and reset.

With this done I was able to go ape and really abuse the strings. Once the strings were locked down there was no further need to adjust even after an hours extreme bar abuse. Good start! The tonal range of these has more mid range punch than a standard set of nickel wound strings and seemed to tighten the overall tone of the hugely mid cut BK's. A good thing again. Heavy chord work further confirmed this with chunky chugging palm mutes. Single lines and arpeggio's were a lot crisper and sounded overall more articulate. This coupled with a nice lift in volume and the easy on the fingers feel. It makes these a no brainer. I love these to bits. So much so that come me needing to restring the rest of my guitars, these will be fitted. I couldn't reccomend these enough. Get em bought, its money well spent.

N.B. This product was reviewed by my father

"I have been using standard D'Addario XL guitar strings for years; I tried lots of different brands, but when I discovered D'Addario, I stopped looking any further, so I don't need any convincing about the manufacturer.

"These new XL NY strings are claimed to have 'more punch, crunch, and bite', 'bend farther', 'sing louder' and 'stay in tune' better than any others. I tried a set of 10/46 strings, the same gauge as I normally use, so this should be a close like-for-like comparison.

"(The guitar was a Fret-King Corona GW, which if you aren't familiar with it, is basically a Stratocaster style, and in my view a really excellent and versatile guitar.)"

'MORE PUNCH, CRUNCH, AND BITE?'

"Yes (maybe). They probably are a little brighter/punchier than the standard XL's, but any new set generally sounds brighter, and I wouldn't say there is a world of difference in tone, particularly when one tweak of a tone control can change the sound so much (and sometimes you actually do want it a bit more mellow). Will they stay brighter for longer? Can't say at this stage. But the sound is great, whether or not it is actually all that different from the standard XL's."

'SING LOUDER?'

"Well, they certainly ring out nice and crisp and clear, just like the standard XL's. Louder? Not so you would notice. They are as loud as you would expect any nice, new set of strings to sound. I think this claim is either a) more along the lines of a general statement that they 'sound very good' (which is true), or b) intended to appeal to those guitarists who think you can never, ever be loud enough, no matter what amplifier you have (which is not true)."

'STAY IN TUNE BETTER?
