I'm really impressed with these strings, from the colour-coded ends (so that you don't get them mixed up), to the 'tight' sound they produce. I'm not that much of a serious musician, so my ears aren't tuned in the the differences between different strings, but they sound lovely and new at the moment - time will tell how long that lasts, but 'so far, so good'.

I strung them onto a Jackson Charvel - the bass string was slightly wider than the previous one, and I had to make adjustments with an allen key to get it to fit through the metal bar at the top of the neck, but I suspect that I might be the only one to have that kind of problem.

Really nice strings so far - I have high hopes that they'll last longer than the usual ones :)

Edit 16-08-14: Second impressions confirm the optimistic nature of the initial ones: the strings stay in tune really well; they seem to be easier to tune, as well - the strings never drop unpredictably when twisting the pegs, and feel very stable. They're a pleasure to pluck..

These have been on my Gibson Les Paul for a week now and show no signs of dulling. They have a great, bright sound and I do play guitar a lot at home. The light gauge guitar strings are a pleasure to play, as opposed to the tow ropes I have on my basses.

These strings are in the upper mid-range, price-wise but do represent very good value for money when bought from amazon (or a couple of their partner sellers), so I can happily recommend that you try them if you haven't already. Neat packaging makes them a nice gift.

The poackage quote: "D’Addario NYXL guitar strings will bend further, sing louder, and stay in tune better than any string you’ve played before."

I do have to say these strings are nice and comfortable, seem hard-wearing and durable as strings go. Always wipe your strings down properly after playing for a longer life.

I'm a bit too long in the tooth to just believe any old hype regarding strings. I'm a guitar tech at a UK festival so its hard work to convince me. Well that and I like what I like which have been Dr Strings and Elixir's. Both of these have served me well. I'm always open to new things though and will try them. Now I've tried every conceivable variant of modern string technology and before I start I'm as well as saying I hated D'Addario strings. Never saw the attraction. I've tried Ernies latest offerings, M steels and cobalts and they whilst making your guitar louder make it into a treble squeak fest. So... the guitar in question. An Ibanez RG550 with Bare Knuckle warpigs in. I won't say as set up was a breeze, it never is with a floating trem, but it was dealt with and the relief and action checked and reset.

With this done I was able to go ape and really abuse the strings. Once the strings were locked down there was no further need to adjust even after an hours extreme bar abuse. Good start! The tonal range of these has more mid range punch than a standard set of nickel wound strings and seemed to tighten the overall tone of the hugely mid cut BK's. A good thing again. Heavy chord work further confirmed this with chunky chugging palm mutes. Single lines and arpeggio's were a lot crisper and sounded overall more articulate. This coupled with a nice lift in volume and the easy on the fingers feel. It makes these a no brainer. I love these to bits. So much so that come me needing to restring the rest of my guitars, these will be fitted. I couldn't reccomend these enough. Get em bought, its money well spent.

Is it worth paying the extra for these strings? Well, yes, if you are particular about them.

They feel more substantial under your fingers - the core seemed heavier than other brands - but are not harder to bend.
There is a definite improvement in tone over standard strings; these replaced a set of yellow Rotosound 10s and the difference was noticeable.
When newly fitted, they sounded fresher for longer than others that have been used; the usual strings being Rotosounds or Ernie Ball's.

Aesthetically, some may find the different coloured ball - ends of the D'Addario's less appealing and a bit gimmicky, but that's just a personal choice.

For the home hobby guitar player, these are an expensive choice when measured against some others available (over twice as expensive on RRP).

For gigging or studio work, professional or semi - professional musicians will no doubt appreciate the definite improvements in quality and tone provided by these strings and be happy to absorb the extra cost .

I really like them, they are great (uniformly silvery) they do indeed stay in tune a long time and sound great on my guitar. I (like other reviewers) think they would make a great gift; The cool packaging, the appealing look and feel, just the over all surprise at the quality as a gift. For personal use though, I would stick with my trusted cheaper ones with the inadequate way I play!

These seem like very good strings. They tune up easily and hold their tuning well after a short time. They have a nice feel under the fingers and give a good, bright tone which lasts well.

I'm not sure these will lure me away from my Elixir nanoweb strings which I have used for years and love, but they are well worth a try if you're looking for decent strings. If you find they suit you, they should serve you very well.

By the way, I do find that every time I catch sight of the manufacturers' name I end up with
"With my ring dumma do dumma dah,
Whack fol D'Addario
Whack fol D'Addario
There's whiskey in the jar"
going round in my head for hours, complete with guitar riff. This is not really the fault of the strings, however, and other users may not be afflicted in the same way. :o)
