Product Description

Amazon.co.uk

Recorded in October 1999, this double-disc slab will certainly stick to your ribs, chock-full as it is of burly, brawny riffs and it is as flavourful as it is filling. Without question, the pairing of Jimmy Page and the Black Crowes sounds as strong on your player as it does on paper. Page's playing is more focused and incisive than it has been of late, the Crowes sound energized and inspired by the esteemed guest and Chris Robinson makes a fine Robert Plant. The Led Zeppelin covers, which account for 14 of the 20 tracks on Live At The Greek, stay close to the original arrangements--you can sing along most of the way based on your knowledge of the Zep studio albums. At first, this may seem disappointing, but it becomes clear very quickly that this method is preferable to any heavy-handed reworkings. And they smartly include a few lesser-known tracks as well ("Sick Again" and "Ten Years Gone" from Physical Graffiti and "Out On The Tiles" from III). The real payoff, however, comes with the half-dozen blues covers, which sound looser and more alive than the Zep tunes. This set isn't innovative, surprising or adventurous, but that's precisely where its charms lie. --Marc Greilsamer

Buyers beware, the majority of these reviews are about the later recording in 2000 with Jimmy Page.
This show is 9 years earlier in 1991. It's still a great live album but somehow Amazon have got their reviews mixed up!

I don't really have to say much more! Having been a Zep' fan since the very beginning, I was a little dubious about buying this as an Amazon recommendation, but I needn't have worried. It's probably the best money I've laid out on a CD for years. Buy it!! Highlights? Well, 'Custard Pie' is stunning, 'Ten Years Gone' and 'In My Time Of Dying' astounding. The lesser known 'Hey, Hey What Can I Do' is a classic, and the climax of 'You Shook Me', 'Out On The Tiles' and 'Whole Lotta Love' will take your breath away. How I wish I had been at this concert!!! Jimmy Page has lost none of his artistry and sheer class, and make no mistake, The Black Crowes support him in superb style. What a superb band! (Great vocalist). This is a truly fantastic work and I have no hesitation in recommending it to any fan of Led Zeppelin, or any fan of CLASS rock music. Brilliant - the nearest thing to the best I've ever heard. Buy it and love it!!

The Black Crowes sure do know how to boogie and Jimmy Page is undoubtedly a genius and one of the best guitarists for improvising that the world has ever seen. It is brilliant to hear him in such fine form. You can feel the buzz - this is a must for any Led Zep, Crowes or good music fans. The Lemon Song especially is pure brilliance. I hope they do a UK tour together - we NEED this kind of music at the moment.

As a Zeppelin fan for many years I was a little dubious and concerned when the legend that is Jimmy Page teamed up with the pretenders to the Zeppelin throne,The Black Crows. As soon as I listened to " celebration day " I knew this album was going to be a treat. The opening riff of "heartbreaker" made the hairs on the back of my neck stand on end. This cd is a must for any true rock enthusiast and demonstrates that Jimmy Page and his Gibson Les Paul are still in perfect harmony

ARHHHHHHHHHH this is super stuff. the whole album is just full of energy and fun. Jimmy the master just has a great time and the Black Crowes are as tight as the great Zep themselves. The selection of songs is great and it is fantastic to see OUT ON THE TILES included. This is a great track from Led Zep 3. Zep Heads will love it and so will other rockers who beat a heavy beat. At no time does the album fail to crackle. Buy it play it loud and get out your best air guitar out - Good rock is back in Town

A great band with a legendary guitarist guesting/leading! What more could you want. A must addition to any Leddo's collection.

MPEG a bit rough quality and mixes slide shows of stills with limited live footage. Which is a shame as the live show bits are awesome (apart from the sharpness issues).

The only beef I really have now is most of the Led Zep stuff really focuses on reruns of a core set of tracks, i.e. the usual famous stuff. So I've ended up with 10 versions of No Quarter, Kashmir, Whole Lotta Love, Dazed and Confused, Balck Dog etc etc.

Be nice to have some of the other stuff reinvigorated?? Or even better new material!! wish wish wish wish......

I first heard of this album when reading Mojo magazine the other month. Have a few Black Crowe albums and as for Zeppelin...well massive fan. Any ways was intrigued as just thought this might work...boy what a surprise! Once you have got over the fact that it isn't Robert Plant on vocals and excepted that actually Chris Robinson does a really good job, you get what can only be described as Led Zeppelin with a slightly different take! Pages guitar playing is as ever brilliant, and all the better for having two additional guitarists adding to the layers the master himself lays down in the studio. The production is spot on and all in all this is a must have album for any Lead Head...a true gem and one I cant recommend enough.

Unfortunately Led Zep was before my time and until the release of Led Zep's "How The West Was Won" I didn't realise what an incredible band they were. It just doesn't sufficiently come through on their studio albums. Similarly this live album by the Black Crowes is absolutely fantastic. I wasn't that familiar with Led Zep's album Physical Graffitti, but when you hear those songs played live by the Black Crowes and Jimmy Page you suddenly understand what all the hype is about. Highlights: Ten Years Gone, In My Time Of Dying, Your Time is Gonna Come. Must have.
