Biography

Blackfoot were contemporaries of Lynyrd Skynyrd, and tried for years to make it as a Southern rock band, although they finally succeeded as a hard rock outfit, in the manner of AC/DC and the Scorpions. They racked up a hit album (Strikes) and a pair of successful singles ("Train, Train," "Highway Song") in the late 1970s and early 1980s, before they became lost in the ... Harking back to the Glory Days of Southern Rock, this compilation of Blackfoot tracks really brings to life the feeling of sunshine, whiskey and loose, loose women engendered by the no nonsense goodtime rock'n'roll prevailant in the 70's & 80's
If like me, you collected the Blackfoot albums on vinyl then, but have struggled to replace all of these with cd - then this is the purchase for you - if you haven't heard Blackfoot, but are a fan of Molly Hatchet, Lynyrd Skynyrd, Outlaws, 38 Special etc. then firstly, shame on you, and secondly - BUY THIS NOW!
Blackfoot's earlier output is covered briefly here, as is some of the latter stages"pop rock" but the meat of this cd is the pure essence of swamp rock distilled from their finest moments- the four albums in the middle of their career.
Stand out tracks abound on this cd so I'll have to stick to the cream of the crop.
Train Train sums up everything about Blackfoot and Southern Rock, a deafening rythym section overlaid with grating riff and Rick Medlocke at his vocal best, I defy anyone to keep their toes and fingers from rattling out the traintrack rythym as the song barrels down the line.
Foxchase opens with Shorty, Rick Medlocke's dad drawling and picking on his banjo - I hope the old guy had glued his teeth in tight as the opening bars of Foxchase would surely have sent them flying from his ol' gums - a tale of "huntin' in them Georgia Hills" What with? A tank and some flame throwers?
Every Man Should Know is a menacing tale warning would be suitors of Rick's chick of what might happen to them if you "mess with his Queenie" Judging by the driving rythym section and old Rick's growling lyrics, you don't really want to know chaps!

If you like Skynnrdd you'll love this.Medlocke's guitar is melodiuos, loud, fast, slow but never indifferent. The best track for me is "Diary of a working man."this is a very emotional track written long ago (1976)but still has it's roots in the today.
"Fox Chase" is a quirky tune that will be sang beside campfires on many a bikers rally.
The LIVE tracks alone are worth the money.
All in all a superb album that has made me want a lot more.

STRIKES! 20 Feb. 2007
By Michael Courtney - Published on Amazon.com
Format: Audio CD
If you like southern rock or are just wanting to see what the guitarist with Lynyrd Skynyrd sounded like way back when, this could be a disc for you. It's a great price for a ton of music from the 80's, particularly if you are new to Blackfoot. If you already have heard Blackfoot, you might want to get a regular release like "Strikes", "Tomcattin", "Flyin' High", or "No Reservations". All have excellent tracks and for the most part are budget priced. If you enjoy live, you might try "Highway Song - Live". This compilation contains their hits [Wishing Well, Train, Train, Foxhunt, and Highway Song]. Rickey Medlocke and the rest of Blackfoot rocks on this disc. It's a great place to start or a nice disc to toss in a jukebox in the gameroom. Buy with confidence. This is really good!

A LITTLE BIT OF NATIVE AMERICAN SPIRIT 19 Aug. 1999
By A Customer - Published on Amazon.com

I would have to say that medlocke's blackfoot were one of the best southern bands to happen back in the 70's.They had a great melodic twist to their sound.I really thought it was great that they were all native american, and kickin down some righteous tunes.

Hard jamming solid rock & roll 15 Dec. 1998
By A Customer - Published on Amazon.com
Format: Audio CD
BlackFoot in my mind is the only group to play train, train the way it was ment to be playes. AeroSmith played it in a watered down remake compared to BlackFoot. I will be getting additional copies and will be sending them to some of the local progressive radio stations in my location since they claim not to have it.I found the BlackFoot RattleSnake disc to be a very high quality and have the origional BlackFoot on a record one copy open and one still sealed as a collected version I have not seen any place execpt you operation that had this disc and am Impressed by you selection of not having just one but several different disc's of this classic artist I commend your operation for providing access to this classic music Amazon.com ROCKS THE PLANETS keep on rocking Dwight/Alpha

Blackfoot Rattlesnake Rock Bites! 16 Oct. 2006
By Bela - Published on Amazon.com
Format: Audio CD
I saw them open for KISS in 76 and they blew me away.

But for some reason I never bought any albums. I never

heard them on the radio. I always thought they were

another Skynrd type band but they are NOT! They are

just kick butt rock and roll! I love it! I love the

live versions so much I wanna get the live album now.

Reminds me of Saxon or UFO live. Awesome. I'm sorry I

didn't listen to them before. Train TRain, Wishing Well,

Queenie and the kickin' Good Morning are just killers!

If you think they are just some southern band think again.

Highly recommended for any hard blues rock fan. Buy Blackfoot!
