1.0 out of 5 stars Wrong information leads to people believing herbs dont work :( 17 Nov 2013

I found this book to lack the basic necessities for actually making tinctures that will work. For example the Eye Strain states 1 part Dandelion...is that the leaf, the flower or the root or all 3? Is the Dandelion to be used fresh or dried. Each part of the dandelion is used with different body systems, and therefore the part of the plant is of the utmost importance when making a remedy. Also I find it bothersome that many of the plants she has in her formulas are not noted to be used fresh. Many plants lose their chemical constituents when dried like Milky Oats and Lemon Balm and must be used fresh to obtain their medicinal properties. Also when it comes to Milky Oats to add them to alcohol and not glycerin can burn the plant and make it useless. In the Migraine Relief Tincture she lists Lemon Balm twice so is it 3 parts Lemon Balm...2 parts Lemon Balm or a total of 5 parts??? For an educated Herbalist such as myself I find this book frightening, for when a person gives the wrong advice it can make all the Herbalists and herbal medicines look bad. Making the medicines incorrectly with the wrong plant parts and not clarifying whether to use fresh or dried herbs leaves the impression that Herbs do not work, when the truth is ignorant people are writing and giving wrong and bad information.

5.0 out of 5 stars Good Stuff! 16 Nov 2013

Jessica's book is an excellent reference guide on how to
prepare tinctures for a whole variety of purposes. The
author shows how to mix the preparation with alcohol,
gin, vodka or rum. These preps may be stored in a jar
for 4-6 weeks. They should be kept warm during this time.

The drops should be placed under the tongue to enter
the bloodstream faster-according to the author. There
is a very careful delineation of age-appropriate doses
for very young children. This reviewer likes the
preparations Jessica describes for such ailments
as the virus. (Elderberry and Rose Hips or Usnea Lichen
for the immune system.

Overall, Jessica's book is extremely helpful for getting
people started with home herbal preparations. This book
would be a good supplement to your existing health and
wellness program.
