Product Description

This new, sleek SMD design uses 24 Epistar LED chips housed in a lightweight aluminium casing ensuring the LEDs are kept cool to prolong the life of the bulb. Epistar is one of the major LED producers supplying many hi-tech companies including Samsung with long-life, low energy, robust and highly efficient LEDs for their TVs and other innovative products.

When used together, the wide beams of multiple Interlux™ lights combine, creating a flicker-free, uniform illumination from floor to ceiling for the home and commercial premises alike.

As usual, if the bulbs do not meet with your satisfaction they can be returned for a refund.

After looking through what Amazon UK had to offer in the way of a bright 50-60W GU10 Halogen bulb replacement, I purchased 3 such products. After installing all 3 LED bulbs next to each other I did a comparison. I will be returning the other 2 and ordering more of this one, here's why:

1) 5W Interlux GU10 Warm White; High efficiency LED (400 lumen); Replacement for 50W halogen:

This bulb had the most yellow 'warm white' colour, meaning that it was closer to the yellow hue of a halogen bulb and less of a harsh white/blue hue that LEDs typically produce. This is useful if you want something that is similar to the colour of a regular 50-60W halogen bulb. Despite the other 2 LED bulbs being rated at 6Ws each, my flatmates and I came to the conclusion that this was the brightest bulb. It also fit in the ceiling socket very well, with no obvious gaps. It may not be immediately obvious but this LED bulb has a glass covering over the front which makes it easy to insert into GU10 sockets with clips or other mechanisms to hold the bulb in place. The other two LED bulbs did not fit well and I had to play around with the clip to gently force the bulbs in place. Finally, the product was well packaged in a hard cardboard box when delivered - the second LED bulb (2) came in a small buble-wrap packet and we all know the the boxes that house lightbulbs are very flimsy.

2) 6w 80LED Energy Saving GU10 bulb 380 Lumens 50w brightness (Long life lamp company):

This bulb was almost as bright as the Interlux bulb, it didn't fit well as each LED protrudes out and there is no glass casing to protect the LEDs (the instructions say 'not for bathroom use or where it can get wet'). Although this LED bulb is rated as 'warm white' (i.e.

The Interlux 5W GU10 gives a warm white light which is a good match for a conventional Quartz Halogen 50W GU10. The brightness is hard to estimate. The surface mounted LED's give a wide spread of light, covering nearly 180 degrees, unlike the 40 degree cone produced by a quartz halogen flood. The rated light output of 420 lumens is less than the 600 quoted for a 50W halogen bulb, but it seems comparable in a real situation, perhaps because of the wider light spread. These would be less suitable in a room with a high ceiling, but for normal usage the seem a good replacement for a halogen bulb.

The light output from this was very subpar. I recently bought a 4.5 Mirrorstone LED GU10 (I'm in the process of trying to find the best LED GU10) , and it's brightness was at least double . Additionally I expected the light to be warmer than it was (other reviewers had given it positive reviews in that regard) , but compared to a Halogen warmth it is completely not in the same league. Very disappointing bulb. The only positive is that its the same size as halogen GU10 so will fit in ceiling downlight's without problem, whereas the Mirrorstone is longer than normal.

This lamp is truly excellent. I tried 4 different LEDs to change from my 50W halogens and this gives the best light, at half the price of similar high-quality LEDs. It has a wide angle of light, rather than focusing on a small area, as some others do, the colour is very warm, so the quality is the same as of a 50W halogen. It also fitted extremely easily in the socket (unlike 2 of the other lights I tried). I was initially worried about the square shape of the LEDs, but they look round when it lights up. It takes about 0.5sec for the light to start shining, just FYI.

I have nine of these in my kitchen, they give a very strong light. fantastic bulbs.
The service you get from LEDLights4Less is similarly excellent.
Highly recommended.

I bought three of these SMD GU10's to try out in Feb 2012, the first one has just failed this week, so thats less than a year for an expensive bulb. Which is also less time than the standard halogens I fitted to compare.

The light is warm but it is too fluorescent orange for my taste, a bit like a street lamp and i agree with other reviewers that they are not warm like a standard halogen. They are bright however and are close to a 50W halgoen in my opinion, perhaps only slightly less so.

Overall disappointing in a bulb that lasted less time than a standard halogen but cost significantly more.

I couldn't recommend this product to others at this time.

I have no doubt that like me, you have considered buying one of every likely candidate and comparing them in situ.
Let me save you some time, effort and very likely some money. these really are very good. Switched off they look quite avant garde, with 24 tiny tangerine coloured squares behind the glass front. At switch-on there is a fraction of a second lag for them to light up, unnoticable really, and their light is superb. If anything it is very slightly warmer than the 50w Halogen GU10s, maybe a tiny amount more yellow but the two are virtually indistinguishable. It gives a light intensity that at first glance doesn't seem (By a tiny margin) quite as bright as the halogen. this appearance is probably down to the lack of a reflector; If you look into a halogen you get the concentration from the mirror back behind the source. You don't get that effect or the painful glare from this bulb. What you do get is a much better spread of light. It doesn't have the 'pool of light' spot effect of the halogen and the light spread is wider, more diffuse. Looked at from an angle there is a hazy glow around the bulb which is not as acute as the painful glare from the 50 watt.
I tried some of the triple LED Edison 6 watts and although the light intensity was good they are a little colder and bluish in hue. They are also quite focused, giving a cone of light similar to a halogen but the clincher was my good lady's description: "They look like something they point at you at the dentist - with their fancy chrome cutouts around the individual lights". She's right too.
Oh and just as a bonus these are very similar in size to a halogen. I have found several of the LED GU10s to be a little longer in the body and a bit of a squeeze to get into the fitting.
So that's my two penn'orth.
