5.0 out of 5 stars Shame on you! 20 May 2007
Please beware of some earlier opinions, this stand up set is fantastic, I thought 'Monster' was brilliant, although at some times he had appeared nervous it was startlingly clever and very original.

'Like, Totally..' does not fail to raise the bar. The set feels far more complete and free flowing. Some have written he seems 'BORED'?, obviously confusing the words 'bored' with 'relaxed', he seems far more confident in his twisted perspective and how he deliveres it. Yes, he has taken one or two jokes from his 'Monster' set but comics such as Lee Evans have been rehashing the same jokes for the last ten years, the fact that Dylan Moran has expelled so much fresh material is astonishing.

To add...
People expecting Black books 'live' will be disappointed, but only because it's NOT Black books! Heaven forbid he ever try to portray it in a live format (R.I.P `Mitchell and webb' & `The league of gentlemen') Very rarely does a TV show transfer to a live format successfully (the only one springing to mind being The mighty boosh's offering, but then I had seen the show before the DVD which is probably where the added appreciation lies).

Anyway, enough rambling...

Buy it!

4.0 out of 5 stars Brilliant 6 Mar 2007
I saw this show live at the Apollo (and my friend rather upsettingly made it onto the DVD, whereas I didn't) and I thought it was great. I thought Monster was better, but not dramatically so, and certainly not enough to merit the scathing reviews here.

I don't think he seems tired or bored with the material (and there is no noticible repitition in the material from Monster). I think he's just settled in the role he plays on stage.

Given a choice of one or the other, Monster trumps this DVD, but only just :)

4.0 out of 5 stars Giant cages, kids in bed, and stupid Americans. 18 Dec 2007
Dylan Moran has a great stage presence - his seemingly half drunken delivery and unkempt yet clean physical style make him visually very appealing.

His observations on life are dry and often dark, he has a great habit of throwing an abstract comment into the mix whilst he is speaking to catch you off-guard and add to the hilarity. Although I don't think that this is Dylan Moran at his funniest - it is still extremely good and well worth watching. He seems a little less angry, less aggressive than he did in Monster - but only a little! Infact, Monster was in many ways a better show than this, but Monster was always going to be difficult to top. What you get in "Like, Totally" is a set of views which have been finely chiselled into a great comedy repertoire. Dylan seems natural, although this was no doubt performed many times you never feel that it has been rehearsed and repeated - it feels as though this is the first time!

This contains one of my favourite stand-up moments of all time, Dylan Moran talking about how stupid Americans sound more stupid than anyone else. Also - his comments on how other nations are assimilated into `Americadom' by the use of Starbucks was brilliant. Actually, his surreal explanation seems to be quite an apt metaphor for the Americanisation of the world via capitalism. There is a fair bit of anti-America humour in this which pretty much sums up the zeitgeist.

The encore at the end is pretty short, and the show seems to have been clumsily edited at points so that you never really feel like a member of the audience. There are no extras on the DVD either - BUT - this is still a great addition for any stand-up fan.

5.0 out of 5 stars slow burn genius 15 Jan 2007
very surprised by the negativity of some of the reviews here - i saw this show in london and everyone was crying laughing throughout. it's not exactly gag-a-minute stuff but he builds fantastic surreal images that vary from the sublime to the ridiculous (witness: "this synbolises poverty"). he doesn't seem bored by his own material , any more than his usual stage persona is a kind of world-weary disbelief. stil seemed very funny on 2nd 3rd watching on dvd and even cracked-up an american who watched with me.

I cannot recommend everything that Dylan has ever done enough to anyone. A must watch along with his other live DVDs and the Black Books series.

5.0 out of 5 stars Ignore the bad reviews, it's brilliant! 10 Oct 2007
I can't understand why so many people have slated this DVD!! I bought it a while after having bought Monster, and I thought it was equally as good, if not better. I can't comprehend why so many people have said most of the material is lifted from Monster, because that's just not true- apart from a couple of bits which probably only add up to about 3 minutes in total out of the whole show, it's all new stuff, and it's hilarious. Didn't seem "lacklustre" or "bored" to me at all- I was nearly crying with laughter. If you liked Monster of if you haven't watched any of Moran's standup yet, then get this because it is hilarious. Honest.

4.0 out of 5 stars Not quite Monstrous, but not bad. 4 Jan 2007
By Real
Firstly, ive been a Dylan fan for some time, black books and monster being two of my favourite comdey dvds ever. I went to see him on this tour in Glasgow, and had the dvd been that show i wouldve given it 5 stars.
However at this show he doesnt seem to enjoy himself at all. He doesnt even allow himself a smirk. The delivery of his material made him sound bored an basically like he wanted the whole thing to be over asap. "And the cage comes down, and you kill mummy with a trowel" was delivered to perfection and had the glasgow audienece in stitches. In this he says it very quickly while the audience is clapping.
Having said all that its still very good, though not as funny as his previous stuff. But then again, just Dylan standing reading a paper would be more funny than Peter Kay, Jimmy Carr, Al Murry or ****ing Russel Brand.
