I'm from the U.S. so I don't know that much about U.K. shows. I read the reviews of Blake's Seven and decided to buy them. I really enjoyed the entire series, but now that I'm done, I'm not sure what to watch next. I have watched a few episodes of Dr. Who, but didn't like them. I'm wondering if I should give it another try, or if there's something else out that as good as Blake's Seven.
Hi what era of Dr Who did you watch?Unfortunately alot of Tom Bakers era is not very good but i would recommend Jon Pertwees first two series as the Dr. Spearhead from Space,Inferno(one of my personal favs),The Silaurians ect. Also give Pat Troughton a go too some fabulous stories available from his era The Invasion,Tomb of the Cybermen and The Wargames to name three. Outside Dr Who give the original 1980s version of Day of the Triffids a go. The original Survivors tho not exactly SF is excellent and written by Terry Nation. The original Quatermass is just chock full of brilliant writing especially Quatermass and the Pit. I could go on all morning but i hope that helps. British SF tho not high on good effects makes up with some great writing.Having grown up watching so much of this stuff i have a great affection for it and still enjoy them now.Actually working my way thru Blakes 7 at the moment. Enjoy Neil
Thank you so much for this great information. I own Quatermass and the Pit, and have Survivors in my wishlist. It sounds like we have the same taste, so I will follow your advise on Dr. Who and give the first two series of Jon Pertwees version a viewing. Again, that you for the information.
My pleasure just to add have you seen the original Prisoner? It is possibly one of the best series ever produced for british television. So many ideas crammed into 17 episodes,it can be confusing and the end is left to make your own mind up.However i cant recommend highly enough.definitely worth buying. Neil
I have seen it, and own it. I like a number of old 1960's shows, such as Avengers (with Emma Peel), Man in a Suitcase, and the Champions. Of all of them, The Prisoner stands out, a one of a kind classic.
I enjoyed lots of dr who from all the doctors. . But if you liked blake seven you will like any 1970's- mid 80's doctor who probably. I do. I even enjoy the 1960's doctor who stories are good, but the black and white and cheaper budgets are evident in those even more. still I found them fun. but the 1970's-89 stuff was always worth watching to me. the best though is probably the pertwee stuff and baker stuff . lots of fun there. however the the next three doctors did a good job too and although they had bad outfits with question marks on them I found the stories to be usually good.
