This was released as the best of Jaco's 'Twins' tour of Japan in 1983 and it really is worth getting. Jaco is amazing (as always) and the big-band that accompanies him (the Word of Mouth orchestra) is top notch!
'The Chicken' was one of Jaco's favourite pieces to play and this version is a highlight of the CD. Other gems are a short version of 'Liberty City' and also 'Fannie Mae' which I have listened to many times in order to get to grips with the amazing walking bass. Buy this if you love big-band jazz, buy it if you love Jaco, buy it if you love bass, just buy it!

This CD is one of jaco's best ever sold CD of his time. It has style, pernash, good structuring and to me and hopefully many people is one of the best jazz peices ever sold on CD. If you don't like Bass then don't worry because once you have heard this you will want to take it up!!! A group of Jaco's best tracks - BUY IT, you wont regretit!

'Invitation' is a highly enjoyable and reasonably well recorded live album of quality biggish band jazz/funk music from 1983. Jaco is of course amazing throughout, his bass lines inventive, singing and always fizzing with energy make for exciting listening. However, he allows his fellow co-stars a plenty of opportunity to shine. Not surprising when you consider the line up includes such luminaries as Don Alias ,Peter Erskine,John Faddis, Randy Brecker and 'Toots' Thielemans. Jaco also confirms his reputation as a master arranger and composer with tracks like the lovely 'Soul Intro' and the extended intricate workout that is 'Reza'. Top tracks? 'Invitation' and 'Amerika'.All you need to know about this set is demonstrated in these stunning performances.'Invitation' is a great album, but for new fans the first album 'Jaco Pastorius' might be the place to start. Even so, recommended.

Jaco Pastorius was not only a phenomenally gifted electric bassist but an extremely good big band arranger. This CD, albeit quite brief in length and recorded live at a concert in Japan, is one of only two that document his charts for the "Word of Mouth Big Band". The material and soloists (apart from Jaco himself) are possibly not of the best quality but overall this is an important historic record of work by a genius cut off in his prime.
