5.0 out of 5 stars Professional Camera Slider 15 Sep 2011

Hey guys. I ordered this rack instead of the w10-60 and the w10-40 because it is the widest rack and I thought it would be the most appropriate for my camera.

All I did was drill a hole in the carriage and a hole either end of the rail. I then attached my camera to the carriage and two tripods to either end of the rail. It couldn't have been simpler. All you need to buy is some 6mm screws that fit in the bottom of your camera.

I'm glad I purchased the W10-80 instead of the w10-60 (which is more popular for sliders) because it is slightly more robust and it weirdly cost less than the w10-60 which is strange because its a larger size.

I previously used a DIY slider that I made out of some old drawer rails. The Igus system is far far superior to my homemade version and I recommend buying it. The smoother your shots look... the more professional your footage looks.

Hope this helps. Rob.

5.0 out of 5 stars Superb build quality, superb performance. 9 Jun 2012

I'm very impressed with this product. I bought the rail a few days ago - it was delivered promptly and in bomb-proof packaging.

To use it as a camera slider, you'll need a few other components. I bought a second-hand three-way tripod head for a few pounds, and I already had a duplicate quick release plate for my current tripod. First of all, I bolted this QR plate to the rail using the existing holes - this means I can mount it easily to my tripod. Then I drilled a 6mm hole through the centre of the sliding block. Using the tripod screw from the old QR plate, I bolted the second-hand head to the block. I added the camera to the head, and that was it - finished. Very quick, very easy, and very impressive results.

I'm glad I picked the 80mm rail - it's cheaper than the 60mm version, and I'm not sure the 40mm would be sturdy enough. This feels very robust, and there's no bow at all in the rail, even with a full-laden camera on one end. A word of warning - you should also invest in some clamps - you don't want your camera to drop off the end of the rail......

All-in-all, I'm very impressed. It needs a little work to convert into a DSLR slider, but I don't hesitate to give this five stars.

1.0 out of 5 stars Disappointing product - times 2 9 Nov 2012
By Crusty
Based upon the previous 2 reviews and what I'd seen in videos elsewhere I ordered this slider. The product arrived well packaged, yet with a deep diagonal scratch and other marks on the carrier. Looked like they'd run out of material and fished this out of the scrap bin! 3 of the bearing housings were finger tight and one was so loose it rattled. Needless to say, sliding wasn't great. Tried tightening the bearing housings to different torques which made it worse. Lightly tightening seemed to be the best option, so that there was some self alignment, but even this gave only average sliding.

Contacted Igus to ask what the secret was to setting up the bearings. Replied but only to offer to send out a replacement. They did not offer advice on set up. Accepted another unit which arrived unmarked, but was even worse at sliding. Carriage only moved when raised to 45 degrees, and even then, the movement was inconsistent.

The one star is because Igus arranged to pick up both sliders. They then failed to credit me and respond to subsequent emails, until I finally had to use Amazon's refund claim system, which was effected within a couple of days.
