This book is an awesome guide to the Mac platform's programs for seniors. We originally got an iMac with Mac OS X Lion, together with the Mac for Seniors and the Mac programs for seniors book (this one) to get the ball rolling for my mom & dad, who are now retired but are still very active and like to travel. With a background in pc's, they had a bit of a hurdle to overcome initially. A lot of the Mac OS points itself out but some basic things, however, are just hard to understand, if you did not grow up with them. This is where I believe the Visual Steps books come in handy.

My parents sat down together and made it a couple activity to learn together about the Mac basics. They quickly figured out how to navigate the online world and maneuver around the new Mac OS system. Thanks to this book, they learnt how to manage music with iTunes and to edit our picture collection with iPhoto. They are now proficient both online as offline. In a way, they started a little computer class for seniors together.

In a nutshell, this is an awesome visual book about Mac programs (apps) that is specifically designed in a way `Mac seniors' and beginners can understand.

I work in a senior citizen center, specialized in computer education for seniors. One of our most popular classes at the moment is the `computer classes for seniors' class. We train our senior students on how to use both pc's and Macs, on how to optimize their internet experience and guides to various applications as iPhoto, iMovie and iTunes.

For our Mac classes, we work with iMacs for every person and one master computer projected onto the big screen. We follow a one-step-at-a-time approach on how to specifically go from one step to the other and obtain a specific result. Our students quickly learn how to connect, use Mac applications, manage photos and movies etc. It is an effective way to teach seniors how to use Macs and applications.

Unfortunately this book is now out of date for anyone who has purchased a new Apple as this is now running OS X. Unfortunately I didn't realise this until I had purchased the book as I saw OS and as being new to Apple not up to date with all the different versions of OS. Otherwise I would suggest a good easy to follow guide if you are still running the older versions.

Great book for Mac training for seniors 22 Aug 2013

As a companion to our courses, we have found the Visual Steps series to be the best fit for our approach, as this series utilizes a similar technique to our lessons, in a visual step format. Practical and thorough, we recommend these guides to our senior computer enthusiasts on their way to Mac mastery.

Well written, good graphics and easy to understand. This helps to make up for Apples continued lack of printed instruction books.
Somewhat helpful 12 Mar 2014

This is helpful and contains a lot of information but it did not answer my questions. I had hoped it would give me a 1-2-3 — that is, simple steps to achieve a certain result. No Luck. I had to call computer support to get answers. Too much detail and not enough basic for me. Perhaps it will be more helpful after I learn a few paths.
