Computer novice found it hard to understand because he knows none of the basic computer literature. For example he has never even heard of an App for example and believe me there are many others.
I feel that this book would be the most excellent book for beginners on the market if it included a chapter or even an index which explains all the basic computer words for total beginners. If the writer reads my entry and then reads this book through with totally virgin eyes of having no computers, smart phone or tablet/laptop knowledge they may realise that it can still be confusing in parts.
Now as I have had a iPhone before and a laptops (not apple) though I found the book in the main great and I am not sure you will find a better one. I have read lots of the same negative notes for real beginners on other Dummies Book and most of them seem to have even worse reviews for beginners with absolutrjy no knowledge of computer speech at all.
I would recommend but please be aware that true retirement total novice beginners may not learn with ease, just because if not understanding computer lingo. I have had my Dad on the phone every five minutes. So as I said you do need a little computer speech knowledge.
I would definitely recommend after seeing many others though. It would still be my first purchase even for my Dad as I have yet to find any other book that explains all the lingo. Ignoring this though i do recommend this book, as I am actually not that literate but I have learnt easily from this book. In fact I was surprised how much I actually already knew once it was explained in such clear written detail and pictures. . The pictures make it brilliant.
Please don't let this review put you off purchasing this book as I still think its the best extremely clear, well presented and put clearly in pictures beginners book and If in doubt I would buy.
My only advice to somebody is please write a separate book if necessary explaining all the computer lingo. I
Also keep having too look up text lingo on the Internet. I am ok with computer lingo (well most) but I can quite understand why my Dad or someone of his generation or any total novice would be totally lost trying to understand it all. I get so sorry for my Dad he finally opened up his new ipad2 then opened his book and still had hardly any idea. Please someone give this some serious thought. If I was knowledgable myself I would do it, you never know there could probably be some good money in it.
Just a wonderful safe cover for my Christmas gift I pad, it is easy to use and nicely padded but not too cumbersome. I can recommend this cover.
