Reasonable tablet but with caveats,

This review is from: iPad Alternatives (3) - 8" Android 2.2 Tablet PC - 800MHz Cortex A8 Processor - 512MB DDR2 - 4GB NAND Flash - Wi-Fi - Support Flash 10.1 & 3D Games - G-Sensor - Touch Screen
Recently took delivery of an APAD IMX515 8" Android 2.2 Tablet. Then discovered through further research that there are at least two variants, possibly three! My version did not have Android Market or FaceBook functioning, opting instead for an alternative market with very few applications or games available. Quality is a little questionable, this is most certainly not an iPad from that perspective, and the resistive screen lacks the sensitivity of the iPad, and whilst the display is clear and bright the touch response can be hit and miss, with evidence of interference from the LCD or other internals making a long press near impossible as it will shake the icon! Improved firmware has been produced by some enterprising individuals for $5 that adds Market and improves both Flash and the touchscreen response, and fixes the broken FaceBook app - and I have installed it to confirm the fix. Battery performance is woeful, not much over 2 hours with full brightness and WiFi on. WiFi is quite weak, although others have reported it quite strong on another variant. If you like to tinker and are reasonably comfortable with computing it can be a good buy, would suggest searching out slatedroid forums and checking the posts in the Cortex A8 tablet section for current and potential owners.

This product does not currently come with any instructions so you have to feel your way around a bit. You need to calibrate the screen when you first get it to make the touchscreen responds as you expect it to. The SD slot leaves the card sticking out a little rather than flush with the edges. It does not have a camera, but the short description didn't say it had one so I wasn't surprised. The page the tutorial is on, does not open. After spending a little time figuring it out, I was able to download both the Kindle app and the NOOK app via the web and for me, I was looking for a ereader with some web options as well, so all in all, it is exactly what I need. The google apps are not the complete google apps but called AndAPPStore which has limited amount of apps. It does offer porn and sex apps, which I don't think is appropriate. The tablet is able to recieve updates that will allow for the full google app world when the update is available.I'm having a problem with the battery charging but I think now that I have completely discharged it prior to charging it, that might solve the issue. The company I purchased from, Vostrostone, is very responsive via email to any issues and have offered a replacement charger or tablet if it comes to that. I hope it doesn't because I have it set up the way I want it and have downloaded some books to it that I want to start reading. I received the device within 5 days. I don't know why the warning about not being shipped till after Christmas and not to expect delivery till Jan. 18. 7 of 7 people found the following review helpful:

The device is dead after a recharge session. Dead cold, no power on it at all. There is no proper guide and troubleshooting notes for this item. Mine had only 7 days time to return to the seller. No pc repair store will want to fix this item. There is no warranty. Yeah, I bought it at risk and lost $220.00. 2 of 2 people found the following review helpful:

limited i-Pad capabilities,

One of the reasons why I bought an i-Pad alternative was to be able to access the Internet so that beside book reader I can use the tablet for quick Internet search, downloads, etc. I found however that the product has poor wireless reception capabilities, e.g. even in my house where I have very strong wifi signal the tablet is barely sensing it. This is disapointing as I could have saved money to buy just a Kindle, or Nook. Also it is very hard to find accessories for this tablet, for instance finding a tablet portfolio proved to be a challenge due to the unusual size of the tablet.
