I really wanted some AirPlay speakers as I've got so many Apple devices. The list features of the iW1 sounded great; but many of them don't work properly. I wish I hadn't bought it. The sound drops frequently. The charging is erratic. The status indicator lamps on the front are incorrect. It charges the iPhone when docked; which is great, but wastefully continues to do this even when the iW1 is running off its own battery. It doesn't charge the iPad ever. These things make no sense. I really wouldn't recommend this device.

Awful. Constantly drops connection. Useless. Amazon no help. Manufacturer no help. Google has lots of people with same problem but no useful solution.

I was please initially as the speaker is very nice looking. Set up was pretty easy using the iphone app and connector supplied. It just lets itself down by consistently dropping the connection. When I contacted the seller they advised that this was normally down to the customer's wifi but even if I use it in the same room as the router it still drops out. I have apple tv and this works fine so I can't see how this would differ. Have sent back for a refund. Disappointing.

Having waited the best part of a year between this product being announced and finally released in Europe, I bought the iHome IW1 last weekend, from John Lewis rather than Amazon (my original pre-order on Amazon was cancelled after 3 months of waiting for stock, then a few weeks later I spotted it in-store and bought it on the spot!).
So far I've been using it for about a week and am loving it. Using the iHome connect app takes just a few seconds to set the unit up (connect it to your wifi network and give your box a name). Then just use Apple AirPlay to connect to the speaker and the music is there.
One of the great features of the speaker is that it's totally wireless. If I want to listen to music while cooking then I just pick it up off the charging base and move it into the kitchen. No interruption to playback or anything. I haven't done any particularly scientific tests on how long the battery lasts but I've used it for a whole afternoon until it ran down; the speaker then just went silent once the battery was empty. No audible low-battery warning but there is a flashing red light on the front (although I didn't spot it in time).
The sound quality is really excellent, especially with the "Bongiovi" acoustic setting enabled, which really makes the sound much fuller and warmer. I don't know how it would compare side-by-side to a Zeppelin or to other AirPlay competitors, but certainly it is leagues better than my previous AirPort Express + cheap speakers setup. The speaker is loud; even on the lowest volume setting it still provides plenty of volume, can't get it quite as quiet as I might want if I wanted it on just low in the background whilst doing something else.

Keeps cutting out through songs. I've only ever managed to hear 1 and a half songs before it cuts out. Not my network (other airplay devices work fine). I've waited a year for this speaker to be available and it's such a let down. I wouldn't recommend it to anyone.

Looks the part but doesn't work. Set-up was straight forward enough but only worked for 5 minutes, with continuous dropping off, and then refused to play even through the USB dock. The ipod app wouldn't connect to the speaker in an attempt to reset it. Returned for a refund. Don't bother

I must say that I did fall in love with this speaker from reviews and the main feature I wanted of AirPlay.
The design is excellent, very sleek and easy to use and the touch buttons are responsive.
Unfortunately after owning this speaker for a while I am having to admit defeat. The AirPlay feature is the worst I have come across since converting to Apple and investing in AirPlay devices. The unit will constantly drop the signal and therefore lose connection to your device over AirPlay. None of my other AirPlay devices experience any problems on my network with my Airport Extreme but this device refuses to work. Very temperamental and unreliable. I can get F1 at over 3hours non stop on an Apple TV via AirPlay from my iPad, but with only audio to my iHome from my iPad it will drop out after a couple of songs even though both are on the same network and located (in this test) the same location. Doesn't have any kind of reliability and the reset time is a pain if you are using this away from the power dock.
No updates have rectified the problem and their support was very poor.
Wired however and the use of the internal battery I would recommend as the unit performed very well indeed. Hopefully mine was part of a bad batch??
Unfortunately I cannot recommend as AirPlay is supposed to give you wireless integration but with this unit I have to use mostly wired.

Just purchased this speaker to use with my iphone 4s and ipad 2. The speaker is superbly constructed and very easy to use and set up. However it will not work correctly with an iphone 4s, the sound drops out after 10 seconds of playing. The speaker works fine with an ipad 2 and iphone 3gs. I also have an Apple TV and the iphone 4s works fine with airplay to this device. Not sure if the problem is with the speaker or more likely the iphone 4s.
