What are fake flash drives and why should I care?
Many generic / unknown brand flash pen drives contain fake flash. This leads to catastrophic data loss and unreliability. Customer reviews of products will often give clues that fake flash drives are being sold. iBoutique Elite flash drives have been tested with h2testw to ensure they have true flash memory capacity. This software is an industry recognised tool that is freely available on the Internet to check for true memory capacity. There are many flash drives on the market that claim to offer for example 128GB. When you insert the flash drive in to your device, it will even report it as being nearlly 128GB. However over time as you begin to add more and more data to it, you will begin to lose data - not something you want or need. The reason is because many unscrupulous vendors use lessor capacity and low quality flash chips that are hacked to mislead and appear to offer more data capacity than is actually available. Another giveaway of these fake flash drives is that they are often extremely slow to use and detect by your devices.
What is the warranty supplied?
All iBoutique flash drives come with a 2 year manufacturer warranty.
Why is speed important?
You will notice that many flash drive brands/manufacturers don't quote the data transfer speeds of their devices. There is a good reason for this as they compromise on speed to lower prices. Speed however is very important these days. The faster the speed the quicker it will take to write to and read back data. If you are storing large amounts of data, for example video media, software, large music collections, you will quickly appreciate the faster transfer times that iBoutique Elite flash drives give. The speed does vary according to the type of data being transferred and this is the same for all flash drives.
Will I have to re-format the drive?
Possibly depending on the device you wish to use it with. However our drives have been designed to work with as many devices as possible without the inconvenience of having to re-format. We recommend quickly checking some test data with your devices first to spot any possible compatibility issues. If you are having problems however, it is likely you will have problems with other brands on the market also due to the high compatibility.
Why doesn't my flash drive have full capacity?
No matter what flash drive you buy, you will never have available the full capacity of the drive - this is normal. The reasons however are quite technical. All flash memory is advertised using units KB, MB, GB. This means that 1KB is considered to be 1000 bytes, however, computers treat 1KB as 1024 bytes (the unit in this case is actually KB), and so the actual size is lower than what is advertised. This is the same for flash memory from all manufacturers and is well documented on the Internet. Further, the file system used on the device e.g. FAT32, NTFS or exFAT also requires space to be used. What this means that with a 128GB flash drive for example, you will never have 128GB available.
* it is strongly recommend that important data is backed up - especially when using portable storage devices. This safeguards against theft, loss or corruption due to damage etc.
