3.0 out of 5 stars Book is great. Software is dreadful 28 Jan 2014
Format:Paperback|Verified Purchase
Bought this book to help me breath new life into a children's story that I wrote some years ago. Looking at the features mentioned in the software, I thought it would be perfect for my needs and this looked like a great book to guide my way.
Don't get me wrong. The author has tried his best to help you work out this software.....but this software has got to be just about the most frustrating piece of kit ever to come out of Apple. Nothing is straightforward and nothing appears to work without fiddling. If you haven't bought the software yet I'd seriously consider some kind of alternative.

5.0 out of 5 stars I can do an iBook 7 Oct 2012
By M. Sweeney - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
The iBook application from Apple is one of the least "apple like" apps I've had the misfortune to use. The interface is a bit kludgy and it's cranky about certain things. After struggling with it twice, I bought this book on my Kindle and started to read through it. I wont say the heavens opened up but the light certainly went on. The book is laid out well and clearly written even though the material is a bit dull and technical. With this book in my hand, I managed to get my own book project under control and within the week of owning this book, mine was well on it's way. And in the correct format too. At this point, my book is a week away from being submitted to Apple and it is because of this author. I was able to work out that I needed yet another iTunes account in spite of having one for my normal use, one for my IOS app dev projects and a spare I acquired with all this iCloud stuff. I worked out the bits and pieces I needed to get done including being approved by Apple to submit as a content provider to the Apple store. The author also gave me the heads up for the preview copy I need and other bits and pieces.

Over all this is an excellent book to have in your hand when starting your own iBook project. Well done.

Update 11-12-12 I submitted my new iBook to Apple using this book as my guide. My came back approved by with no changes needed. Well Done. The book was worth every penny :)

5.0 out of 5 stars Reading This Book Makes the App Seems to Suck Less 30 Nov 2013
By Murl J. Sprout Jr. - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Paperback
I read this from cover to cover before starting my first project and that helped a lot. I didn't like having to do it. I hate feeling like there's an app I can't intuitively master without help. The book is good, however. Very good, I think. The app is yucky but the book makes using it less painful. A lot less painful.

3.0 out of 5 stars A mediocre book about a mediocre software 2 Aug 2013
By S. Gonzalez - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Paperback|Verified Purchase
It is a shame that a company that created HyperCard so many years ago now has produced this piece of junk they call iBooks Author. Unfortunately, this book does not help to understand how it works. On the other hand, I don't blame the author, perhaps nobody knows, much less explains how to use it.
