5.0 out of 5 stars A real "keeper". Get one of these if you can find one, 22 Oct 2009

This review is from: iAudio U3-1GB MP3/4 Player-Black (Electronics)
Thought I'd add a "long term perspective" review. I got this little dude almost three years ago. Despite the plastic casing, it still looks pretty much new. The joystick control - often a weak point on players - still seems as good as new. I've used it most days ever since I got it, so it's been well tested. It was way ahead of its time: even now there's not much to touch it for sound quality for the size. I recommend grabbing one if you can find it, even a second hand one might be worthwhile. They have so much to offer:
Superb sound. It really deserves a better headphone than the one provided: I use Skullcandy titans.
The little vid screen is OK - very bright and clear, but obviously not exactly a movie theatre experience.
I also use the voice recorder (which can record a lecturer in a big lecture theatre with surprising accuracy)
and the 1Gb storage, which I use for backups and other odds and ends. It'll hold a lot of music, but not that many videos.
The software provided is pretty good: a file-handling program and an audio player which also has a few widgets like video file conversion.
There's also a linein jack so you can use this for recording; with a Shure microphone it will record singing etc. really well.
It also handles a very wide range of file types, which many players don't.

Only weak points: FM radio is pretty average; OK but not a very strong signal. And it was very expensive at the time.

So if one of these babies appears for sale, I recommend giving it a try, esp. if it's been heavily reduced in price.
