5.0 out of 5 stars Dark shades of blue is incredible, 5 Sep 2008
By J. M. Caudwell "Joe C" (UK) - See all my reviews
(REAL NAME)
Xavier Rudd's new cd Dark shades of Blue is his best work yet. I have all the Rudd albums and love them all, but this one is the icing on the cake! Last years White Moth was a great album, this new one is alot heavier and darker but also far more beautiful when the songs quieten down. The opening track, Black Water has a rich, grungy guitar sound with crisp drums and atmospheric didge. It sets the scene for a very powerful album. Guku is a slower song, stunning...makes me cry every times because the singing by Rudd is so soulful. There are a couple of reggae tracks on here too such as Edge of the Moon, but once again the lyrical content and overall sound is alot darker than previous works.
I recommend this album completely because it really works, some people might not like the heavier style but i reckon it is his best, most powerful and incisive work to date. Love it!

5.0 out of 5 stars Heavier than previous releases but still amazing, 25 Oct 2009
By Mr. R. Harrison (England) - See all my reviews
(REAL NAME)
Xavier Rudd has re-invented his style by "rocking" it up a little. Not too much to lose its purity, but indeed enough to captivate the listener to no end. Again he sings of nature, the planet, his family etc. You can certainly see many many noble topics and issues attacked in his songs to great effect. It still amazes me how he can get so much power out of relatively few instruments. He doesn't stray from his previously used setup and gives you more than enough didgeridoo as we have come to expect from Mr Rudd. The power achieved from his lap guitar is astonishing and you are once again taken on a journey with each and every song.

A definite buy. Once you start buying albums from this relatively unheard of artist you can't stop. Can't wait for the next release.

This is the first Xavier Rudd album I've heard and I absolutely love it - soulful singing, didgeridoo, strings. I'll definitely be buying more albums.
