Product Description

Album Description

Following on one of the most well received 16 minutes of music in recent history (2006's A Lesson In Crime EP),
Canada's favorite sons TOKYO POLICE CLUB confirm the completion and release of their first full length album, Elephant Shell. Tokyo Police Club has been touring virtually non-stop, playing variously Glastonbury, Coachella and Reading/Leeds, selling out their first and only headline shows in the UK in double quick time, pausing to release a stand alone 7" "Your English Is
Good", then plunging head first into the recording of Elephant Shell.

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent debut album, 1 May 2008
By C. McCord (Edinburgh, Scotland) - See all my reviews
(REAL NAME)
This review is from: Elephant Shell (Audio CD)
When listening to this album it's easy to pick out the influences on this band. They move from Bloc Party-esque guitar and drums to Editors high pitched echoing lead guitar in another. However, one thing that is truly distinctive is lead singer and bassist Dave Monks' voice. I'm fairly sure it's not meant to be that high but it really works!

With catchy riffs, excellent drums and Dave's crystal clear voice, it's a great combination. If you are a fan of Bloc Party/Editors/Snowden you may well enjoy this album.

Best song on the album for me is "Tessellate" which has one of the catchiest piano riffs around. It craves a massive chorus to go along with the brilliant verses but just doesn't quite get there. A bit of a disappointment but doesn't hold back the album at all.

Other great songs on the album are the Editors influenced "Sixties Remake" and also "Your English is Good".

Great debut album from an interesting band: here's hoping they go far.

This really is an amazing album, it really is! Nearly every song on the album is incredibly catchy. If you think you might have even the slightest interest in this band, just buy the album, you wont regret it!

5.0 out of 5 stars brilliant, 2 Jun 2008
This review is from: Elephant Shell (Audio CD)
This album has not left my CD player since I bought it, not quite as good as "a lesson in crime" but bloody close, jangly guitars + strong drum beats sum up this album simply but it is far more than that, track 5 is a particular stand out.
