5.0 out of 5 stars Plug and Play at it's best, 4 April 2006
This review is from: ATMT 300GB (7200RPM) USB 2.0 3.5" External Hard Disk Drive (Electronics)
What can I say. You plug it in, and it works. Simple as.

Very nice, quiet operation. You won't be able to hear it over your computer noise without your ear pressed against it. Looks very cool, and is surprisingly small, if you've ever seen a real hard drive you'll notice how little space is wasted by the case.

Be aware that the sneaky literal use of the term "gigabyte" is used here, so don't be surprised when you see only 279GB instead of 300 (279 gigabytes = 300000000000 bytes). Unfortunately, this is now common practice.

All in all however, this is a good piece of kit. Good value for money.

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent Plug N' Play Device!!, 29 Dec 2005

This review is from: ATMT 300GB (7200RPM) USB 2.0 3.5" External Hard Disk Drive (Electronics)
It looks better than the picture shows it as! Simple to use, just plug and play and you can back up all day! Quiet and for sure says what it does on the tin! At this price! You can't go wrong, I managed to back up all my songs, movies and files with loads of space to spare! Its probably the cheapest 300GB around! 5 Star all the way!

OK, this is a free-standing external 300GB hard drive for your computer. At 300 GB and £89.00 (free delivery too) that's roughly £0.30 per gigabyte of storage which isn't bad. You can beat that, but you need to spend more for a larger capacity drive or put together one using an old disk and an enclosure, but even then I think there is something to be said for this drive. See, I haven't exactly been nice to this drive, as my wife tripped over an over-extended power cable which sent this drive flying (what can I say, I needed an outlet and she came in unexpectedly). I thought the drive would be dead for sure - but no, it's fine. Scandisk shows no faults either, so not even any lost sectors. I've accidentally dropped this disk in transport. It's been knocked off the desk by the cat (a similar fall from the same incident broke the TFT monitor) and it's still fine. So it's durable.
Aesthetically, it should fit right in with many popular desktop format styles with the black and silver case and blue light. Connects via USB to your computer, so great for storage, but not great for software your computer needs to access repeatedly (like games) but that's not what this is for anyhow. This disk is meant to be a storage solution. You can make back-ups to it, store your files, use it for moving large ammounts of software or data (say from the old computer to the new one).
