Brandy Norwood, the teen television actress on "Thea", began making waves in the pop world with her debut album BRANDY and her Top 10 single "I Wanna Be Down". The album is young,bubbly, and even sexy. Brandy's soul-touched R&B sound mixes sweetly with her jazz-inflected flourishes. Her themes arethe concerns of any 15-year old. The midtempo "I Wanna Be Down" deals with teenage desire, "I Dedicate" pays tribute toher musical inspirations and her family, "Best Friend" is apaean to her brother (also a television actor), and "Give Me You" is a piano-driven, upbeat religious affirmation, effectively showcasing her gospel roots.
Her strong voice is more than competent enough to handle the sometimes tricky musical changes. She often displays a breathy, low-register vocalising that is mature and controlled. Brandy, who also co-wrote some of the material, displays the musical chops to join the league of some of the influential artists she acknowledges in "I Dedicate". She is not a dilettante actress trying to conquer a new field--Brandy is the VSOP of the new school.

4.0 out of 5 stars "Brandy" is a top quality debut CD well worth buying, 23 Feb 2002
It is hard to believe that such a big voice came from such a young girl! Brandy recorded this album in her early teens but the subject matter on this CD is much more mature. With a mix of uptempo grooves and big ballads, Brandy focuses on the good and bad aspects of friendship, love, and life. The production on this CD is A-class and reminiscent of the typical sound of R&B in the early 90's (when this CD was released). The album's only downfall is the sometimes overpowering background vocals, not provided by Brandy. Standout tracks are "Baby", "Best Friend", "I Wanna Be Down", and "Love is on my side".

brandy has done very well on her first album.If anybody has bought her second album then buy the first album. Because it is even better then the second album.My favorite songs on this album are baby and best friend and I wanna be down and sunny days.Brandy has some slow tunes and some tunes with lots of beat to it. Brandy has done very well in her music career. And she is also an actress who has been in moesha and I knew what you did last summer and double platinum.And I hope brandy contines to make music and films.If you like R&B music then you would love this album.
