I knew that this film has had mixed reviews when I rented it, but I like crime capers and magic films so I thought I would give it a go.

The film quickly abandons any attempt at plausibility. The tricks are ridiculous and completely unbelievable. I mean, Ocean's 11 and The Prestige are ridiculous when you think about them, but they stay just the right side of believeabliity to stay entertaining.

It has pulled off one major trick though: it has dazzled so many people that they gave it five-star reviews, and called it "thought provoking". This must be the ultimate confidence trick.

I gave it three stars though because it does have high enough production values.

A starry cast head up this magical mystery film which provides plenty of action and some mind boggling tricks.

A group of solo magic performers are brought together to perform a series of heists. They each specialise in a different field of magic. You have the traditional magician, the escapologist, the hypnotist and the street artist. They all bring their skills to these over the top , flamboyant shows.

The action comes thick and fast and aside from the the shows themselves, it is consistently fresh. A fight between Jack and the police officer on their tails which results in a frantic car chase across the city is a standout scene. The magic shows themselves are full of wonder and special effects.

It is only towards the end that you realise all the film has done is dazzle you. You forget what you are actually watching and the plot then begins to become a little muddled and fizzles out a bit. The quartet of magicians are never really fully realised. You dont know much about their backgrounds and every now and again you get a small nugget of information that never really goes anywhere. Also the conclusion seems a bit of a let down given the spectacular shows on display. In fact it feels as though the writers were trying to be too clever for their own good.

However the film is ultimately a lot of fun and very watchable. Some great action set pieces and special effects helps eliminate any concerns you may have about the story. All of the actors involved are clearly enjoying themselves so you cant help but be swept along too. You would also be hard pushed to find a more exciting ensemble of stars this year!

Showy, spectacular but eventually quite hollow this is a very entertaining film. Just dont rely on the big finale too much!

The film opens with four quick character introductions of "street" magicians. Daniel (Jesse Eisenberg) uses street magic to meet pretty women. His former assistant Henley (Isla "Legs" Fisher) does a stage act. McKinney (Woody Harrelson) is a hypnotist who uses his ability to shake down people. Jack (Dave Franco) uses his slight of hand to pick pocket people.

The four are summoned by Tarot cards (Lover, High Priestess, The Fool, and Death) to a common location. After the credits they become the world's greatest stage magicians while performing crime. They are followed by FBI Dylan (Mark Ruffalo) and Interpol Alma Dray (Mélanie Laurent). Meanwhile Thaddeus Bradley (Morgan Freeman) is exposing their seemingly impossible tricks on the Internet.

The film keeps you interested as to their next trick. The movie drops clues as to what is going on, but again there is the classic misdirection here too. It is s fun popcorn action film filled with mystery, drama, action, and humor.

Parental Guide: One f-bomb. no sex, or nudity. Some sex discussion. Woman in bra.

I'm a big fan of magic, but it just doesn't work here. The film does a great job of explaining some things whilst also sweeping some inconsistencies under the rug, it also fails to show any proper motivation for the main cast's actions. The plot whilst littered with random tricks is mostly predictable and failed to hold my interest past the 30 minute mark. Whilst the acting isn't bad it certainly isn't enough to rescue the poor writing that drags this film down. A real shame and honestly I didn't come with high expectations yet they were still shattered.

I'd seen so many trailers of this movie, all of my friends had recommend this one was a good movie to go and see at the cinema. I actually missed the chance to go, but from buying it one afternoon, I can say, I was actually very impressed. It wasn't quite what I was expecting, all, I will say is four very clever magicians and a twist, that you will not be expecting.

After reading some reviews on here that have under 3*, I am confused. Most people are saying it didn't have a good ending, but I thought that it did. The magicians got what they wanted and the plot twist was great with who the 5th horseman was...so unexpected! I understand why people think that was unrealistic, but after all this whole film is about magic so why are people surprised when the plot twist is unrealistic? The only bit of the ending I didn't like was when Morgan Freeman was in prison. He's too good for that! :(
Overall I loved this film! Every show they did was so unexpected and left me in awe, wondering how it worked! I liked the fact that Morgan Freeman's character worked this out each time because it made him likeable and made me feel like I understood the plot, and could guess what was going to happen next. I watched 'Now you see me' twice in two days, and I was gripped the whole time! It's not my usual genre of film, but I loved it all the same. Awesome and mind-boggling film! :)
