Although it follows a rather well trodden (eg. "Lost") formula of a dozen people, all very different (seemingly random) characters, thrown together, struggling against extreme adversity this is quite good. It's not "brilliant" and you certainly need to "suspend your disbelief at the door" (don't worry - you can get it back as you leave), but it's OK.

You can often summarise a film or TV programme by describing as "a cross between". In this case, I'd say it's a cross between "The X-Files" and "Lost" with perhaps a smattering of "Zombies Dawn of the Dead" - which is not surprising as it's from the original X-Files creator.

The plot revolves around a dozen (seemly unconnected) people thrown together during some sort of Los Angeles based apocalyptic crisis (why do these things always happen in LA?).

The group includes a hard drinking and equally hash talking Irish bloke, a shot-gun toting tough (but innocent) convicted murderer, a top LA lawyer, and his bible quoting escort and an attractive (and very resourceful) French actress - with an admittedly poor accent.

Add to this a children's clown (in full dress), a female police officer and an elderly multi-millionaire widow, and you couldn't find a more randomly chosen group.

But there's lots we're not told.

Like the audience, they're busy making sense of the unexpected crisis, and the odd coincidences and clues they're given.

There's lots of tension, arguments and the occasional gun toting stand-off, and it's worth persevering past the slow start, as the back-story of the key people is established.

Overall, I'd say it's enjoyable with high production values, and remarkably well directed. I'll keep it in my "Watch List", and look forward to the (hopefully) forthcoming series.

The first 10/15 minutes are absolutely classic! Mysterious, intriguing, original, tense... Chris Carter is no stranger to this sort of things and certainly knows how to create tension out the set-up.
I was also quite surprised by the scope of some of the big set pieces, featuring hundreds of extras (possibly aided by some extremely well done CGI).
Script-wise, on the dialogue front, there is nothing to shout masterpiece at and some of the characters seem a little bit too cardboard cut-out (particularly the annoying Irish drunk and the blond prostitute, who out of the blue decides to take a swim naked in a pool in what what possibly the worst sequence of the whole pilot ).
Even in its short 54 minutes, the pilot does manage to run out of steam in places, but there is enough to keep you entertain.
After this it could go both way: it could either become an overly complicated series following the LOST or Flashforward example, where the number of questions asked is greater than the answers, or it could be clever and actually surprise us with big and brave twists and clever and quick solutions.
Hopefully the truth is out there...

Just the right mix of comedy and mystery.A good ensemble cast. And a weird as yet unstated premise. Worth more viewing I would say.

Great pilot, it was very exciting and happily confusing. Please make more episodes, I'm on the edge of my seat.

Great pilot, hope the full thing gets commissioned soon. Some good stuff on Amazon Instant Video but if this is on it'll almost be worth the extra on it's own.

Rally got into the story, a nice mix of characters, most people could relate to at least one of them! Interesting plot, just a shame it's only a pilot! Would definitely watch it if it became a series!
