Wow where do I start?

Actually there are reviews on here that give it one star, so lets deal with them. All 3 mention the opening sequence, and considering Top Gun had Tom Criuse inverted and then lining his plane above a Mig jet, i don't see why you would have a problem with this. Yes it is totally inplausible that a pilot would attempt it but, it sure was dramactic to watch.

Luckily by copy came dubbed in english and that made it easier to enjoy. The action sequences are dramactic, and there are plenty of them. The dog fight over the city is a bit over the top, but it is great to watch.

There is not one but two love stories going on, and they are both done well enough, that it does not make the film too girly, while still putting scenes in for the ladies. I would say that the balance is just about right.

I found the film really emotional at the end. The language is o.k. There is no sex or violence apart from when two pilots come to blows.

I would say give the film a chanc, it is a great watch, but get a ubbed copy.

A great film about a pilot with an 'attitude problem' who gets sent to a frontline South Korean F15 combat unit as punishment for a reckless maneuver during an air display.

The film is in two elements; one about the pilots and crews and their relationships, which gets a bit slow at times but does build up the character's personalities, and the other the combat and flight sequences, which merge CG and real flight footage well. There are a couple of times when the flight parts verge on the ridiculous, especially some questionable inner-city aerobatics, but it quite frankly looks good! (and looks similar to the latest in the Ace Combat video game series)

The back story about a coup at a North Korean base could have been developed a bit more, and assumes the audience knows about the tensions between North and South Korean.

Overall very good, good acting, strong characters, great action scenes, and a few elements referencing other movies but done tongue-in-cheek.

(Should also mention it's English subtitles as it's a Korean film)

Black Eagle has an engaging storyline that runs throughout the film, with loads of superior action-packed aerial combat (dogfighting), which has been shot/CGI with nice camera angles to enhance the intense action both in the cockpit and surrounding. That combined with a romantic element and some light supporting humour, this film seriously outshines Top Gun. Although there are some parallels (fighter jets, romance) with both films, Black Eagle delivers a more satisfying experience with the air-to-air combat and wins it for me!

I have to say that I had high hopes for this film and, fortunately, I was not disappointed. It is inevitable that comparisons with Top Gun will be made (after all, both films are about fighter pilots facing off against a communist aggressor, and to be sure there are similarities (one of the pilots does a flyby on the tower etc). Yet, for all the similarities, this film does have its own unique identity and is certainly much more emotional than Top Gun.

To summarise:

If you liked Top Gun and / or films to do with planes, you will probably like this film.

This is in no way anywhere near Top Gun, I had to watch 55 seconds of the opening scene to determine this when the pilot shuts off his engine somehow managing to get instantaneous supersonic speed 6 feet before hitting the water.

To summarise don't both, waster of time.

The title say it all. Though I must stress that despite its cheesiness in places it was an enjoyable film in a sub Top-Gun kind of way. It was 90 minutes of my life I'll never have again , but I'm glad I watched it.

A clear rip off of the US Genre - with that statement, you got the plot already :) .... but its passible, and warms up somewhat towards the last 45 mins. You'll need a stomach for classic Korean/Far Eastern type exaggeration beloved of Far East based films, and a somewhat contrived plot situation on the North/South Korean border. However if you are into the exaggerated genre of Far East films, its Ok.

If you don't like Far East Chinese/Korean film exaggeration, you'll hate it. Its fine for a rainy afternoon, passes the time adequately, but its definitely not Prime Time, and would not make it to the screen in a Western Cinema.
