Perhaps with less charm than series one, series two continues character development and the evolving storyline with good scripts and good acting. Sometimes it seems that the writers and producers try too hard to conclude a case in a single episode which leaves the ending appearing rushed but this series continues to give great overall value and is well worth watching.

Having patiently waited for a year for Season two to become available, we even more patiently waited until Christmas to open it and have since gobbled-up all twenty two episodes in just a few days.

If you've not seen season one then skip to the next paragraph: This season picks up exactly where season one left off with the revelation that Nick's mother is still alive and grimly killing bad guys; Hank is still struggling with having seen Monroe's Wesen identity and the long suffering Juliette is still in a coma after her poisoned cat scratch.

While Season one was somewhat episodic focussing on character and mythology introductions, Season two makes a much more coherent whole with several underlying plot lines and greater mythology depth. The Scooby gang expands and improbably alliances are forged while the seven royal families and their Verrat henchmen play Wesen politics and seek Nick's mysterious key/map thingy. The action piles along at a cracking pace, the writing is still clever with a light, witty touch and the concurrent plot lines hold your interest (it's also nice to hear French being spoken properly on an American TV show!).

Slight SPOILER alert : This season would easily have rated five stars were it not for the totally ridiculous final episode; it's just daft, contrived and blatantly obvious - no cliff-hanger or startling revelation this time. The whole show has a delightfully self deprecating tongue-in-cheek tone but, really...

Season three is already on our wish list and, as before we'll probably have to wait another year - roll on Christmas 2014!

Just got season 2 after the long wait and I'm down to the final disc so sign me up for season 3.
The series picks up where season 1 left off so it won't make much sense if you simply jump in here.
This isn't going to be for everybody but if you accept the basic premise then you are in for a treat.
Less of a "monster of the week" approach that we had in season 1 and more time is taken to develop character and plot. The season 2 story arc has the confidence to set up plot lines that are only likely to be tackled in a season 3 or even 4 (don't known how many seasons the series has run in the states).
As they laid out in season 1, it's never quite black and white if a character is good or bad. Like season 1 it does deal with complex issues, love, loyalty, friendship in an intelligent way. It's also good that other characters such as his police partner Hank and Sgt. Wu get to be more than just making up the numbers. Monroe, as usual, is great. I do think that the captain steals every scene and also has the best line of the series. The laughs, and there are quite a few for a drama, come naturally. There is a lot of gore & violence (Nick's swinging a double headed axe on the front cover so what do you expect) so you might want to watch first before allowing pre-15's to watch it.

Now, I watched the first season within a few days and ordered the second season as soon as I was on the last disc of the first. I was very excited to watch the second season and was not disappointed. I know sometimes a series can lose its flare and just get boring, Grimm however, in my opinion is not one of them

Watched the first series on a borrowed DVD set, and enjoyed it so much couldn't wait to buy the second series when it became available. From the same stable as Buffy and Angel, the premise is that the central character, a Portland cop, becomes increasingly aware that he can see things others can't; people's supernatural / coveranimal nature behind their human appearance, and that he is from a long line of Grimms whose destiny it is to hunt them or be killed. The special effects as characters morph into wolves, beavers, mice, or something altogether less tasteful, are very well done, and the current Grimm bucks the trend by befriending some of the Wessen, as they are known, and enlisting their help to defeat some pretty unpleasant characters. As the series develops, the relationships between his partner and also his girlfriend (neither of whom can see the Wessen) changes irreversibly. Well made, with a relatively unknown cast list, good use of humour and many references to Grimms tales, you'll either love it or hate it - I think it's great and can't wait for series 3.
