As a former animation student (and therefore lifelong animation enthusiast) I was suprised to only hear of this film for the first time about a month ago. I don't even know if it was released here in the US - but perhaps I really did just overlook it. Well, that wouldn't do! I *had* to see it. Since it is only available on region 2 I went ahead and imported it and had my brother convert it for me. So finally, I got to see it the other day.
As the title of this review says, it was unexpected. See, I had also bought the soundtrack and the 'bubblegum pop' on there had warned me that this might wind up to be a really dumb kiddie flick - but as it turned out the songs that had bothered me were either not in the film at all or were so in the background I didn't notice them. Either way, I was proved wrong: this movie is intelligent and emotional and intense in places. I was captivated. As this movie seems to be virtually unknown in the States I am going to personally see to it that all my friends, especially the ones with children, see it. But I think I'll keep the soundtrack to myself. ;)

Fjeldmark and Hegner create a stunning sea-scape, in this sweet and funny animated feature, attracting the fine vocal talents of Terry Jones and Alan Rickman. Steering well away from CG animation, this movie impresses with the traditional drawn feel, allowing the viewer some visual breathing space! The vivid backgrounds still manage to amaze though, and blessed with a catchy soundtrack, this is a fishy feast for all!

This Danish/Irish co-production is one of the most original(non Disney)animated films in the past ten years. The characters are not your usual run of the mill bunch,Alan Rickman IS the best villin.....EVER.The music is brilliant in a cheesy sort of way. What sets this film apart from all the other animated stuff out there is the underwater visuals. They are the best you`ll ever see.stunning!!!!!!!.The story, pace and humour are spot on,making it one of the most enjoyable feature cartoons for all ages, to come along in years.Excellent stuff all round

I think this animated movie is just as perfect made,as the new "Atlantis" from Disney.Just with another story of course. The computer animations, and the traditional animations works fine together in the movie, and all the caracters is very well-animated.
But the caracters in this movie is not typical Scandinavian,or Danish. The boy Fly,look to me like a typical American spoiled kid, with a love for action. The other caracters is also a bit "American",like the house this movie starts in,and the Landscape. But I am still very proud of my fellow Danes, that have produced this movie.
It is good for all ages.

I enjoyed this fishy tale because the boy who turns into a jellyfish is so funny. The cartoon picture was superb and I was glued to the tv right to the end. The baddy was really bad! I think other 7 year olds will enjoy it too.

This dvd is one of my 3 year old daughters favourites! It's a bit of an old one but the story is really good and doesn't rely on loads of special effect either. One character is voiced by Alan Rickman which sold it for me(I love his voice).I would recommend this film for sure!

"Help! I'm a Fish! predates both Finding Nemo, The Reef and a countless of other under-sea-adventure animations. This movie is still the best next to Finding Nemo, and it's a close race between the two. This movie, however, is largely forgotten and it's a shame as it's a quite a lovely little flick. The story may not be the most original, but the characters are so loveable and the voice-overs are top notch, especially the ever reliable Alan Rickman. The animation itself is gorgeous and it rivals that of all of the major productions with monstrous budgets behind them. As I said, this largely forgotten movie is to be treasured, as it is a master class in near perfection. A movie both children, and adults alike, can enjoy time and time again. Do not miss out on the opportunity to witness a movie, that inevitable inspired all of its kind that came after, including Pixar's masterpiece.
