The Ugly Duckling and Me 2006

4.7 out of 5 stars (28) IMDb 5.6/10

This modern version of Hans Christian Andersen's fairytale is charming. Ratso is a streetwise chancer of a rat whose theatre show is struggling. Then he finds an egg that hatches a mutant swan. Ratso soon sees the potential of showing Ugly as a freak.

An absolute cracking family film. I don't remember this being advertised when it was released. It made us laugh out loud. On a par with others of it's kind that have been made and much advertised by the bigger studios. Can recommend it with no fear.

I love cartoons and this one was great. A really good laugh. Don't take my word for it though I am a big kid.

Well, what looked initially like a typical animated cartoon movie is actually pretty unique in a way I can't quite put my finger on.

Good all rounder though, and it has found great fans in my family from everyone, especially the kids (5 and 7 years).

For the price as well, it's just great.

This is a modern version of the classic Ugly Duckling film. It is very funny and moving and a real pleasure to watch for all from young to old. No matter how many times we watch it, it is still a feel good experience.

I must admit it didn't give this film much notice until we hired it from the library and that was it! My toddler was captivated from the beginning to end so we purchased it on line.
Lovely little story about a rat who wants to make money and accidentally stumbles on an egg which hatches while in his presence in the most unlikely circumstances. But he finds a way to make some money by this misfortune but at the expense of the ugly little ducklings feelings. Mean while the rat has someone following his tail - who reveals the reason they want to find him at the end of the story but the duckling saves the day in the most amusing way. Great thought out story, and something a little bit different and not so predictable. Wish i'd seen it earlier.

Obviously it's not a Pixar but not a bad film, worthy of watching, good characters and it got a good chuckle

For those of us that know the story well, it was interesting to see it in the new setting. But they made the characters funny and though a bit scary at moments, even my 2 year old son enjoyed it. He belly laughed at times!
