When my daughter made me buy this I was dreading the idea of watching it. What could be worse that yet another annoing film about a superhero? And a dog - what kind of superhero could that be, other than lame?

This just goes to show how WRONG you can be in pre-judging a movie. This movie isn't deep (why should it be), but the script is hilarious, the characters are great and the overall effect is fantastic - it's a genuinely funny movie which you will want to watch with your family over and over again.

This film is worth buying just for the script!

Walt Disney's production of Underdog directed by Frederik Du Chau, is a very good all round family entertaining film, and it's a very good quality picture transfer to Blu Ray. I must admit like many reviews here I was put off by the whole shebang of a movie about a super dog hero, but I actually got this movie on Blu Ray for free with my Disney Reward Points. At the time there was only 2 Blu Ray films left on Disney's Rewards website, and I made my choice by reading some of the reviews here on Amazon, and I must say I am not at all one bit disappointed in my choice, especially as I had not seen this movie before, I found it very funny in parts and quite enjoyable.

The actual film is based from an American Cartoon character from the 60's namely Underdog. Well I must admit here I had nether heard of or even seen any of these cartoons for this particular character Underdog, but the disc does come with a couple of the original cartoons in the bonus features (in SD only), as well as the making of the film which goes on to tell you more about the creation of Underdog. So there is some rather nice informative features here along the path of this Blu Ray disc.

The film itself as James Belushi among it's cast who is a great comedy actor from years ago, in films such as K9 and Jumping Jack Flash, though perhaps here he as not got a leading role, but never the less he still does a good job of it. Jason Lee does the voice of Underdog, which I must say is done with shear delight and well fitting to the character and amazingly funny I must say, making the dog here the star of the show in every way. Peter Dinklage (one of the worlds most popular midgets) plays a very good part as the mad scientist.

With films such as this, I tend to refer to my children's opinion as much as mine because it is of course a DVD I bought for them to watch (they are of infant and primary school age). We've had it for over a month and I measure its worth by the number of times they want to watch it - which I've long since lost count of! We have most of the 'inevitables' in our collection, from Toy Story through Monsters Inc, all the Shreks, Finding Nemo, both Ice Ages and many many more, and Underdog, while being slightly different in not being an animated film, has proved just as popular. It's a U certificate so there's no need to worry about any element of it that might not be suitable for a 5 year old. Children love animals of course, and this film combines a lovable dog with a sharp, funny script that adults will enjoy too (or should).

It looks to be a massive improvement on the original comic strip on which it is based, which I think was televised in the 1970s or thereabouts. For what I wanted it to do - to make my children laugh and keep them watching it repeatedly - it delivers the goods completely and while it's not a timeless classic in our DVD collection for kids, it's a worthy inclusion and I personally recommend it.

Watched this with my husband and two sons - ages 4 & 8.

It got pretty much straight into the 'action', so my youngest (4) didn't have time to bored like he usually does.... which makes a change!

Great film, enjoyed by all.

In my opinion this is a brilliant film and I have seen other brilliant films too. This Film has to be up the top of very top 50 list of all of the DVDs I have. I do not get why people would say this is a rubbish film. It is not a crap film but only f***heads would say this deserves below four stars for the rating, it deserves 4-5 stars. It is filled with a lot of action that made me like this film. It does not deserve a s***ty rating.

it has a good understandable plot and storyline and the acting is very good. It is fantastic in every way.

I would definitely recommend it to all who do not have it.

I bought this simply because it was cheap and looked like harmless fun...and it is...BIG TIME FUN!

This modern, live action take of an apparently ancient American cartoon is an absolute scream. I suppose the idea is a little different... a superhero dog? But don't let that put you off. The characters, both human and animal are engaging, the script is snappy and the action is plentiful, exciting and brilliant.

I found a lot of the action was hilariously funny, and without any of that `keystone cop' type idiocy. The most endearing part of this film was that despite the fact that the main character is a beagle, the story brought out in me the range of emotions, and had me bouncing in my seat once or twice, one moment excited, and the next holding my breath in anticipation. The only thing I can't understand is why on earth hadn't I heard of this film before now?

Only the most boring, stuffiest of adults could possibly dislike this film, and the kids will love it.

This film should rate in your collection alongside such greats as `Antz', `The Incredibles', `Bee Movie', and `Carz'. Highly recommended.
