Product Description

Manufacturer's Description

HTC Desire delivers intense brilliance, sharp contrast, and true colors on the expansive 3.7-inch SuperTFT display. The 1 GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon processor makes the phone incredibly responsive as you multitask from app to app without skipping a beat, while the instinctive HTC Sense experience lets you wield the power of the HTC Desire with the greatest of ease.

Make It Mine

With the HTC Desire, it’s all about your information, your entertainment, your multimedia … your way. A multitude of HTC Sense widgets makes it easy to transform your Home screen with rich content that personalizes your phone experience.

If you’re a sports junkie or simply love to keep up to date with the latest news, the HTC Desire keeps you in the know with the News application. News makes it easier than ever to collect all your favorite articles from across the web. Choose from a selection of channels that cover top blogs, news sites or sports pages, or get news updates based on the keywords you select.

Stay Close

The HTC Desire excels at helping you stay in touch with the different circles of friends or colleagues in your life. The new People widget lets you bring any group you create on your phone right to the surface for easy access to calling, messaging, emailing or simply checking up on social networking updates.

The HTC Desire simplifies the way that you tend to all of your social networks. With Friend Stream, your interaction with friends across multiple social networks like Facebook®, Twitter™, and Flickr™ are brought into a single easy to follow stream of updates, photo posts, and shared links. Friend Stream also lets you shout out your thoughts or feelings to all your online friends with a single comment that gets broadcast to both Facebook and Twitter.

Discover the Unexpected

HTC Desire offers an expansive display, a blazing-fast processor, and a great interface. On top of that, it has a lot of little design touches that make a big impact on your overall phone experience: like quick and easy access to any panel of your Home screen with the new seven-panel ‘helicopter’ thumbnail view, or the polite ringer that lowers the ringer volume when you pick up the phone.

Your work email, calendar appointments, and contacts, are right there on your phone - you can even look up any company contact in the global address book. The HTC Desire also has enhanced support for Exchange security features such as password protection and remote data wipe. And, if you forget to tell your colleagues that you are taking the much needed day off, you can set the ‘Out of Office’ status right from your phone.

HTC Desire was designed to thrive on the web. The screen size is perfect for mobile browsing, with the high resolution SuperTFT display making everything you view ultra crisp. The pinch to zoom feature makes zipping around websites intuitive - the text even automatically reflows when you take a closer look so you don’t have to pan left or right, and the Adobe® Flash® support opens up the vast video and gaming resources of the Internet.

HTC Desire’s browser is designed to do more than simply browse. With just a press and hold you can select text on a page and look it up in Wikipedia or have it converted into your native tongue via Google translation tools.

5.0 out of 5 stars i love this phone, 7 May 2010
By Shah Rahim "Sh4h" (uk) - See all my reviews
(REAL NAME)
This review is from: HTC Desire SIM-Free Android Smartphone (Wireless Phone Accessory)
This phone is awesome, for someone who's been using the iPhone for the past 18 months its great to have the freedom I have when using the HTC desire. It's so customisable, you can really make the phone yours. The web browsing is amazing, so much better than the iPhone, the screen is so responsive a bit too responsive sometimes but you get used to it very quick. Tryping with the keyboard is a real treat. The music player is the one area where I do prefer the iphones, using both players you get the feeling that the iPhones one is more refined. Don't get me wrong the music player on The HTC desire is good, it just lacks those little things, anyone who's used both knows systems would know what I'm on about. Love the fact you can put shortcuts for playlists on one of the homescreens for direct access. The headphones are the biggest disappointment with the phone, just to bulky, the headphones are uncomfortable, the controls are in the wrong place. Changing songs using the controls is impossible if like me you keep your headphones (the wire) under your coat. Much prefer the headphones provided for the iPhone, again when coming to playing music small things like the location of the controls makes the iPhone just that better music player. Just goes to show how good this phone is when my only complaint is the headphones.
It's hard to get used to life without itunes but I found a very good software call doubletwist which is like itunes but works for most phones/mp3 players including the desire, check it out it's worth a look. Thats the only thing that put me off getting any phone over the iPhone was itunes, I know a lot of people who feel the same way but doubletwist works great. The app store is also missed but you have Android market. The only problem I've found with the android market is that some of the apps are not available for this phone for some reason, something to do with Google but I've been told that it will be sorted out. battery life seems to be a problem by most reviewers but I've had no problem, its lasted a whole day under vigorous usage all day like browsing, WiFi, music, gps and other things. To be honest you will only get a days worth of usage from the battery. I've always put my phone on charge at the end of the day and i bet most people do so that's not a problem with me. I would totally recommend this phone over the iphone, the only reason i can see someone getting the IPhone over this is because of Itunes but doubletwist sorts that issue out. I don't see any other sane reason to get the Iphone over this, this phone is cheaper, looks better (I think), usability is better, specs are better and a lot more, just doesn't have the brand power of Apple (and iPhone have the better headphones) Once the problem with Google is sorted out this phone is perfect.
Ps I type this entire review using the desire, very nice.

5.0 out of 5 stars HTC Desire, 9 Jun 2010
By Richard J. G. Carter (Ireland) - See all my reviews
(REAL NAME)
This review is from: HTC Desire SIM-Free Android Smartphone (Wireless Phone Accessory)
Do not normally write reviews, but just have to make a comment,
I live in Southern Ireland out in the country, can only get signal,
with O2,(not with vodafone or meteor where i live)I have a Nokia 6210 Navigator,
and can get a signal almost anywhere in and around the house, but I fancy a change,

So went for iphone, took it home connected to pc to set up and put my sim in had one bar signal,
moved around house, inside and out.
The signal ranged from one bar to no service, so took phone back and they replaced it with Nokia
N97 Mini. Tried it the signal was better but still got no signal in other rooms.
When I rang O2 support they said I was only one mile from aerial in town, and should be ok.
They tested the signal, they said it was ok, the lad on the phone said why not try a HTC desire,
went back to shop they said they had not got one and they thought it may be a bit to much for me,
( I am 65 years old but I like gadgets self taught computer tech and done support for ten years)They said they did not think it would make any differance, well went to carphone warehouse, and got one Guess what out of the box signal was better than my Nokia, and its easy to use, I might be old
but I found all the features on the phone are great, like the weather widget, downloaded BBC NEWS, text to speech, and will read sms messages.
All in all a great phone daughter moved to London and she emails every day,and comes direct to my phone. The battery last about two days but does not bother me as I bought spare battery and desk top charger and carry spare.
Buy it you will not regret it.

5.0 out of 5 stars Amazing phone - must buy!, 3 April 2010
By Fraggle (England) - See all my reviews
This review is from: HTC Desire SIM-Free Android Smartphone (Wireless Phone Accessory)
I had an HTC Hero (you know, the one that won all those best gadget awards) before and that was good, but this phone is fantastic. 10 reasons to buy:

1. Large, bright, high-resolution screen. Photos and text look great and really clear - which is good for looking at email attachments or facebook photos.
2. It's thin and very comfortable to hold. It actually feels less bulky than the i-phone 3GS my girlfriend has in my opinion.
3. It's really fast - you just click on something and it appears. No lag. Multitasking, you seem to be able to throw almost anything at it.
4. The 5mp camera and flash are surprisingly good, and you can upload photos straight onto Facebook. It is a real step up from the HTC Hero I had before.
5. Google maps is better than ever on it, and you can get instant directions.
6. MP3 player is really, really good - it seems to be much clearer than my old HTC Hero was, and sounds more vibrant, with sound quality very much on a par with the iphone. I've downloaded a really good Amazon MP3 app means allows you to buy from Amazon huge amounts of DRM free MP3s recorded at v high bit-rates and download them direct to your phone.
7. Everything is super-intuitive - Really good email, text message and social networking integration. The keyboard is really good, and the way they've done predictive text - even when you have typed some wrong letters - is really impressive.
8. Really good, solid-feeling build quality. Nothing feels cheap and plasticy about it like some old Nokia phones I had.
9. It's much cheaper than the i-phone and the new Sony Ericcson x10. I managed to get mine on T-mobile with (per month) 300 minutes, 300 texts, unlimited internet, unlimited landline calls and free phone for £25/month as a new customer, which is absolutely cracking.
10. Web browsing brill. Flash. Multi-touch/pinch to zoom. Pinch to zoom. With Flash, with Flash 10.1 coming out soon this should get better better.
