Superb Sony Bravia LCD TV!!, 18 Dec 2009
This review is from: Sony Bravia KDL40Z5800U 40-inch Widescreen Full HD 1080p LCD TV with Freesat (Installation Recommend) (Electronics)
Having waited for over a year to finally jump on the flatscreen bandwagon i was undecided whether to go for the Samsung 8000 series or a Sony Bravia. Then Sony came out with the Z series (KDL-40Z5800) with the Freesat and decided to go for it. The Freesat is an added bonus as i'm sure more HD channels will be available in the future, and then it saves having to spend so much on Sky.
The local Sony centre were offering the TV with £100 off and trade in an old TV for another £100 off and it came with a free Blu-Ray player BDP-S560 (wireless connection for BD-Live). Even on Standard pictures the quailty is impressive but hook up the Blu-Ray and then Sky-HD and bang! the picture is superb. Deep blacks (no clouding issues), the colours are very impressive and the detail is well worth the jump into HD land! The sound is pretty good considering the size of the speakers and my front room is 15x12, i might connect a surround sound system but not sure yet. There are plenty of connections, 4 HDMI, 2 Scart, ethernet, usb etc.. Set-up is easy and the user interface is very easy to use. On the whole this TV is brilliant and i'm so glad i finally spent my hard earned money and found out what all the fuss was about! Happy HD viewing!!

SONY KDL-40Z5800 Bought November 09, 7 Dec 2009
This review is from: Sony Bravia KDL40Z5800U 40-inch Widescreen Full HD 1080p LCD TV with Freesat (Installation Recommend) (Electronics)
I have been watching satellite TV on the old style tvs but decided to buy myself a flat screen. I had been to PC world, John Lewis, M&S and stood right up close to all the makes of flat screens and found the picture to be very pixellated and certainly unwatchable at a couple of feet away, and it did put me off, I would have thought by now they would have got the picture perfect. It is a good idea to make sure you sit the right distance from the screens. Because of this fact I decided to get the best quality picture available at this time. I read the reviews and decided that a new model, especially the new Sony would hopefully push the boundaries, ie. the picture quality. getting the Freesat as well was an added bonus. The screen itself is very slick looking and only has a small frame around the screen. It comes with a base to it so you dont need to splash out on a tv stand immediately. The picture on the Freesat is very good, in fact it is better than from my SKY plus box but my brother whose a tv aerial man said that if a product has HD built into it the picture quality will always be better ie. the TV has HD built into it. My Sky Plus box hasnt. Stupidly I thought I could switch between SKY PLUS and SKY FREESAT, that would only be the case if I had another lead from the sat. dish to the TV, or the lead was split at some point. So at present I am watching TV through my SKY Plus Box. The picture is very good, there is no motion blur, the colours are true and the whole system is very very slick. I did get Freesat to work and it has good software with it, so I have no complaints on that front its just I cant flick between the two. Before I realised I needed another lead from the sky dish to view the Freesat as well as the Sky Plus I was convinced there was something wrong with the TV so I went back to my instruction manual and it told me in big letters to update the software so remember UPDATE THE SOFTWARE). This was an easy procedure ie. download from computer to USB, plug USB into TV and hey presto software updated. One of the things that blue my mind was when I played my rented Blu Ray DVDS, addmitedly on a Sony Blu Ray player, the Sony TV goes into theatre mode, the picture out of this world, it is like being in the cinema, an absolutely perfect picture, perfect sound, just amazing. I have played non blu ray DVDs and the picture is still exceptional, just not quite up to blu ray standard. I havent tried certain features like plugging the computer into the tv, or viewing photos mainly because I dont want my boys to hog the tv as well as the computer so I cant comment on that. The HD picture is perfect but as that option is only available on the BBC and again on Freesat after viewing it I had to revert back to my SKY plus box so no HD to watch now. I am thrilled with it. Sony are offering a free three year warranty (until Dec. I think) so thats a bonus to.

Lovin' It!, 3 Dec 2009
This review is from: Sony Bravia KDL40Z5800U 40-inch Widescreen Full HD 1080p LCD TV with Freesat (Installation Recommend) (Electronics)
Very attractive looking TV - is now wall mounted and a provides a Cinema feel to the room. Very easy to setup. I am using it with my Sky HD so I have not experienced the same problems as the other reviewer.
My only gripe is that I have plugged into the HiFi and now there is an awful echo as the audio sound is out of sync - most annoying.
