Manufacturer's Description

The Guitar Hero universe is about to expand, not just with a new band or instrument - but with a whole new style of music. Never mind air guitar, now you can pretend to be a superstar DJ from the comfort of your own home thanks to the new turntable controller bundled with the game.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great fun and a fresh challenge, 31 Oct 2009
By Mark Mulvenna "citlecevoli" (Dumbarton, Scotland) - See all my reviews
    (REAL NAME)
    Fun:5.0 out of 5 stars
This review is from: DJ Hero - Renegade Edition (Xbox 360) (Video Game)
Got this game yesterday and ended up playing it for hours - it is fantastic.

The renegade edition offers you the additional extra of a carrycase/stand. As a carry case it is useful for keeping things tidy albeit as previously mentioned it is not exactly top quality. As a stand for the decks it serves a purpose with 4 adjustable legs. In addition to this there is a bonus CD which i haven't yet listened to as i was too busy playing the game!

Now for the game - i have played all the guitar hero games which with GH5 i began to feel had ran its course and was no longer holding my attention. With DJ Hero you are given a whole new challenge based around the GH style of play with 3 colours coming along the highway which relate to the 3 colours on the turntable. The other hand controls the crossfader, effects dial and euphoria button. There are 2 useful tutorials to explain and get you familiar with these controls. Do not assume that if you are good at GH you will walk right through this game. I launched right in to the game on Medium level and found that i was going to have to work hard to master the game at thi slevel before progressing to Hard or Expert.

The game takes you through different music sets each containing around 3 or 4 different mixes (except the Daft Punk set which has 8 mixes!!!). The mixes, on the whole, sound fantastic and given they have been made for this game there are a few surprises in there (MC Hammer V Vanilla Ice, for example, should not work but let me tell you it does!). These sets are played in different venues each of which you unlock by gaining stars. These stars also unlock a whole variety of other options such as DJ, DJ Clothing, Headphones, Decks, Decks Skin etc. Stars are obviously gained by how well you play each set. In the beginning i was averaging around 4 starts per set but in the latter sets this has dropped to an average of 2 which i am actually pleased about as it means the game will offer me a challenge and is not easily mastered.

I have no DJ experience whatever, therefore, there may be others out there who are familiar and used to the co-ordination required to achieve. The main areas of work i have is mastering the crossfader in the sections where it moves back and forth quickly as well as scratching when using the blue button as my finger feels surprisingly weak when trying this particular button!!

Overall, i feel this game has freshened up this genre and will obviously be developed for DJ Hero 2. I can only apologise to my neighbours in advance as the coming months could be noisy. I would recommend this game to all those who loved GH. My only criticism is the price of this game particularly in the current climate but if you can then get it.

3.0 out of 5 stars LOOKS COOL.............., 28 April 2010

    Fun:3.0 out of 5 stars
This review is from: DJ Hero - Renegade Edition (Xbox 360) (Video Game)
We bought this for our boy who is hooked on Xbox........ He went on and on to buy it and eventually we gave in. I must say that the Renegrade Edition is far superior to the ordinary DJ Hero and quite substantial. I would recommend this one over the other one if you have the extra pennies.
Our boy played with it for a while and now it is sitting in the corner of his room gathering dust, only to come out now when he has people over. Not one of the best 'games' for him as it hasnt kept his attention...... but each to their own.
