5.0 out of 5 stars An Unsurpassed Imagination, 4 Jan 2006
By Green Man Music "green-man-music" (United Kingdom) - See all my reviews
(TOP 1000 REVIEWER)
Alan Dean Foster wrote his books about Flinx and the Human/Thranx civilisations (including my favourites The Tar Aiym Krang, Orphan Star, The End Of the Matter, and Bloodhype) - many years ago, but as an imaginitive sci-fi series for me they're pretty much unsurpassed. In the Flinx series, a personal quest for an individual's origins becomes entwined with events of interstellar import.

Foster creates a populated universe rich in colour, religion, politics and intrigue indulged by wonderfully innovative life-forms. These stories are full of twisting plots and dark corners both of the universe and of the mind. Sinister churches and greedy corporations, busling alien markets and the deep emptiness of infinite space, all combine into a mind-bending tapestry of intergalactic life.

4.0 out of 5 stars No 3 and still going strong, 25 Aug 2005

(TOP 500 REVIEWER)
One man in the Universe holds the key to the mystery of Flinx's past - and that man is trying to kill him. It is a strange childhood for a kid, to be adopted by the restless Mother Mastiff and raised in the bustling markedplace of Drallar. Flinx never knew the mom and dad who abandoned him years ago. In fact, his birth has always been shrouded in mystery. But Flinx eventually discovers that his unknown parents have left him a curious legacy - extraordinary mental powers that are both a marvelous gift and a dreaded curse. This double-edged legacy will lead Flinx, along with his loyal protector, the mini-dragon Pip, on a harrowing journey in search of the truth --- about who he is and where he comes from. It is a daring adventure that brings him to another world - and into the clutches of one of the most evil and powerful men in the galaxy.

Once again Flinx has to face tribulation that brings about great change in his life (unbeknownst to him). Once again Foster managed to catch my interest and I finished this book in one inning.

3.0 out of 5 stars Great for younger readers, 26 May 2009

(REAL NAME)
As I've said in another review - started reading the pip and flinx series years ago and decided I wanted to see what happens. Would definitely recommend it for teens/younger readers.

The humanx universe is great, wouldn't mind having a mini-dragon myself and will still read the other books just to find out what happens to Flinx.
