4.0 out of 5 stars A great follow up, to best ever Gamecube game, 28 Nov 2009
By Mr. P. P. Eaton "Philster" (England) - See all my reviews
(REAL NAME)
Fun:5.0 out of 5 stars
Ill start off with a big point. If you haven't played the original, Tales of Symphonia on Gamecube, you might not understand the complete storyline as it is a direct follow up set 2 years after the first events. There is a short explanation at the beginning of the game so if you haven't played the first game, you get what basically happened and where the world stands now. It has an immediate appeal to people who loved the first game as you want to know why Lloyd is apprently attacking towns and killing people for no reason, whereas he was the hero and main good guy in the original. On the note of Lloyd, this game has all of the original characters returning in some aspect in this game, as they join your party at certain times on your quest as you hunt down Lloyd to find out the truth. the main character you control this time is Emil, a timid boy, who becomes a Knight of Ratatosk to protect Marta who has the Core of Ratatosk emblazed in her head. The story being that you need to collect all of the Centurion Cores to restore the balance of monsters and mana in the world by reawaking all of the Centurions [monsters who control other monsters of the same element] and thus reawaking the leader of all monsters Ratatosk to restore normality to the world. Lloyd is apparently collecting the cores for his own personal use, whilst there is another group of people collecting the cores too. I dont want to give away the story so i will just highlight some points of mine:

Good points:
+Plays similarly so you can get straight into it easily if you know the last game or other Tales of games. Also easy to learn if your new because of in game help at the start of the game.
+Exploring some original areas 2 years after the first game to see how they have changed.
+Returning characters!
+Good music.
+Great battle system.
+Collecting monsters [kind of like pokemon to be fair, you fight along side them in battles]

Bad points:
-The graphics have not improved at all since the original from 2003......
-You cant walk around the world map nomore, just click on where you want to go and your there.
-Some original characters do not have the same voice actors anymore.

All in all its a great game which is just an enjoyment to play, well worth buying if your a fan of RPGs and only have a Wii.

2.0 out of 5 stars Bit of a let down, 6 Jan 2010
By Zenizlev (Telford, UK) - See all my reviews
Fun:3.0 out of 5 stars
Although this is a continuation of the great Tales of Symphonia it just does'nt feel as polished. Most of the characters are just dredged up ones from the original game this leads to less story in total as you don't spend time getting to know them. As well as the characters being cookie cutter the areas are the same practically all pulled from the first game but surprisingly to me it looks worse than the Gamecube version. It all just seems as a half hearted attempt at a game between their two excellent titles the aforementioned Tales of Symphonia and Tales of Vesperia.

If you love this series then I'd get it if not I'd go for the Gamecube game it's gonna be cheaper and it's so much more enthralling.

3.0 out of 5 stars Hrm, 4 Jan 2010
By Raishnei "The Serene One" (Manchester, England) - See all my reviews
Fun:5.0 out of 5 stars
Being a big fan of the original, I was excited to receive this game for Christmas.

I have several irks with the game, which I will outline before I give the good things with it.

1) it's far too short. Far. Too. Short. The gamecube version was spanned over two worlds, Tethe'alla and Sylvarant. And since this is spanned over the same two worlds merged, you'd expect it to be big? Wrong. 20 hours into the game and I'm on the last 'quest' of chapter 7 of 8 chapters. Sure, you can do the mini-quests with the Katz Guild, but it's just NOT the same.

2)the storyline is a little lame and in a way, doesn't fit in with the original storyline.

3) the bosses are a LOT easier. I mean ALOT. I remember spending frustrating hours with the original trying to get the best strategies to defeat Yggdrasill. But in this, it's a little easy to beat.

Overall, I think it's a game that's suitable for the casual gamer and not the hard-core rpg. I'm not sure if I'd play it again because of the short play life, but I'd definately recommend it if you like rpgs
