Product Description

Manufacturer's Description

The new REGZA SV series combines state of the art Full HD 1080p picture processing with our stunning Deep Lagoon design. The REGZA SV Series is the first to feature our cutting-edge LED Local Dimming backlight technology which produces deep, genuine blacks and bright highlights through the dimming or intensifying of LED backlights in corresponding areas of the screen. LED Local Dimming technology and Active Vision M200HD 200Hz picture processing allow you to experience Toshiba's clearest, smoothest and most astonishing picture quality to date. Dolby Volume stops those annoying fluctuations in volume levels during commercial breaks and when switching between channels and sources, providing a drastically enhanced viewing experience. Our unique and critically acclaimed Resolution+ upscaling technology enhances edge details and texture to upscale standard definition content to near high definition quality. Providing clearer, sharper, richer images. As no environment is ever the same, the AutoView feature is able to adapt to its surroundings. The content being shown on screen and the ambient room lighting are taken into account, resulting in the picture modifying itself to suit, providing a more pleasant viewing experience. AutoView, coupled with the Full Power Down function (allowing the user to completely turn off the TV), allows your TV to run at lower levels of power consumption, reducing energy bills while being kinder on the environment. The feature list is equally impressive thanks to our innovative Meta Brain technology; Dedicated Game Mode, 4x HDMI™ INSTAPORT™, USB Pro (JPEG, MP3, DivX®), SD Card and integrated digital tuner to name a few.

Deep Lagoon Design: The SV Series Provides exceptional styling to match top class specification
The new REGZA SV range features a premier version of Toshiba's new Deep Lagoon design theme, which sees the exterior screen sitting flush with the front of the TV frame. The effect is created by a Full Crystal Panel that sits over the front of the TV, creating a unique design effect while also improving contrast and colour ratios. The frame itself is a stunning gloss black with gradual colour gradation fading to white on the outer extremities to create a tapered effect. Together, these new design elements create a truly stunning appearance which will look astonishing in any home.

LED Local Dimming

Experience our clearest and brightest picture to date. View larger

LED Local Dimming: Experience our clearest and brightest picture to date
Delivering the blackest blacks and most authentic, vivid colours possible, LED Local Dimming represents the very foremost in today's high-end television technology.  A full array of white LED (Light Emitting Diode) backlights replaces the basic fluorescent lamp backlights of a conventional LCD TV, producing a spectacular improvement in contrast and colour. Toshiba's Local Dimming technology instantly tailors the brightness of the individual LEDs to each fraction of the image on screen. LEDs can offer an increased Dynamic Contrast Ratio of 2,000,000:1 which is significantly higher than conventional LCD TVs. The advantage of the higher Dynamic Contrast Ratios is that blacks become blacker and show the depth of shades of black which is ideal when watching dark scenes. Toshiba's Local Dimming solution offers LEDs directly behind the TV screen, offering an even spread, unlike simple edge LED solutions. By offering an even spread of LEDs, each area of the screen will respond accordingly to the details being displayed on the screen, rather than simply spreading the lighting from the edges. LEDs also offer quicker response times than conventional LCD TVs making the handling of fast moving images even more impressive. The response times of LED TVs combined with Toshiba's Active Vision M200 200Hz effect picture processing will provide the ultimate experience when viewing fast action paced movies and sporting events. LED backlighting helps to create the sharpest and widest colour reproduction ever seen on an LCD TV.

Active Vision M200HD

Active Vision M200HD alters each frame
to create faster, smoother moving images. View larger

Active Vision M200HD: Delivers fast moving action without the blur for our fastest and smoothest moving images to date
Even with Full HD 1080p picture quality, clarity and detail is lost with fast-moving action. Active Vision M200HD enhances our 100Hz technology which creates new frames to appear between the original transmitted frames. It uses 360 degree motion estimation, complex mathematics and 10-bit video processing to calculate the movement required by each pixel. Each frame is only held on screen for 1/100th of a second to eliminate pixel drift and reduce blurring. The result is seamless motion. Active Vision M200HD take this process a step further. It uses the same principal of creating new frames but alters each frame to create faster, smoother moving images. While LCD TVs use a hold technology to produce a picture, the longer that image stays on screen the greater the chance of a visual judder. To counteract that effect, Active Vision M200HD inserts black sections into all frames - reducing their time on screen - and tricking your mind into seeing a smoother, clearer picture. The result is seamless motion and amazingly smooth action. Active Vision M200HD has to be seen to be believed.

Dolby Volume: Dolby Volume automatically adjusts the sound level so you don't have to
Dolby Volume stops those annoying fluctuations in volume during commercial breaks and when switching between channels or sources such as your DVD player or games console. This feature eliminates the need to keep reaching for the remote control to adjust the volume during every commercial break, providing a more enjoyable viewing experience. Dolby Volume also provides a full and consistent sound experience at all volume levels, even low volume.

Resolution plus

With Resolution+, your 1080p Toshiba LCD TV will
produce near HD picture quality on all standard definition.View larger

Resolution+
Toshiba's unique and critically-acclaimed Resolution+ upscaling technology takes everyday standard definition content and instantly enhances it to virtually high definition picture quality by improving edge detail and texture With Resolution+, your 1080p Toshiba LCD TV will produce near HD picture quality on all standard definition TV, DVD and downloaded content you watch while still delivering the most pure and stunning picture quality possible from all high definition sources Watch as your favourite movies, programmes and games become clearer, richer and sharper than ever before

Resolution+ Step By Step

  1. A standard definition (SD image) from your digital set top box, aerial, MP3 player, laptop/PC, games console or DVD is received and upscaled to near HD quality
  2. The freshly upscaled image is then down converted to SD quality to compare the newly created SD image to the original SD input signal.
  3. Differentials between the original image and the downscaled image are detected and removed. This process of upscaling and downscaling takes place three times, all in real time, so no delay can be seen
  4. On the final rotation, an SD image is output at close to high definition quality, resulting in a clearer, sharper, richer image
AutoView

AutoView automatically adjusts picture settings
according to room lighting and screen content. View larger

AutoView
Toshiba's unique technology that automatically adjusts picture settings depending on not only the room lighting, which is common feature on quality LCD TVs these days, but also the content shown on screen. The technology eliminates the need to constantly have to adjust the backlight brightness and colour settings in order to find the best viewing experience in all environments. The ambient light sensor is constantly analysing the room lighting and adjusting the LCD's backlight to suit. Through the use of this technology the viewer is provided with a more comfortable viewing experience in all lighting conditions. Content viewed on screen is also constantly analysed. Dark and bright pixels shown on screen are monitored and picture settings are adjusted to provide the best possible image. AutoView means that your REGZA LCD TV is always performing at its full potential, delivering the best possible picture quality at all times.

Reduced Power Consumption
With backlight levels constantly being controlled, AutoView works in conjunction with numerous Toshiba initiatives aimed at lowering power consumption. As the backlight is not set at a constant level but adapts to it's surroundings, this allows for less power to be used in dark rooms whereas standard LCDs would still be consuming higher levels of power.

Game mode

Enhance your gaming experience with Game mode. View larger

Game Mode

Models in the ZV Series have a very exciting new feature for the gamers amongst you; Game Mode. This feature is designed to enhance the gaming experience by ensuring the best possible aspect ratios and response time of the television to the gaming console. Game Mode bypasses much of the picture processing technology required to enhance TV programmes and films, resulting in an improved response time and screen refresh rate. Games appear on screen exactly how they are intended to by the developers and the action on the screen is displayed with practically no lag time. With no technical barriers to inhibit game play, games can be enjoyed in optimal conditions meaning your performance will not be negatively effect by your television in any way. Game Mode is compatible with any HDMI equipped games console and automatically adjusts the picture to deliver a more realistic game setting and importantly 1:1 pixel mapping. This allows every last detail of the original image to be shown without cropping the edges; giving the online gamer a distinct advantage over opponents without Game.

HDMI Instaport

Connect all your media with HDMI Instaport. View larger

HDMI Instaport
With a wide range of HDMI-equipped devices on the market, individuals are now starting to connect games consoles, DVD players, PC's and set top boxes all via HDMI. When you wish to change from playing your games console to watching TV, you will need to change HDMI inputs and expect that content will appear on screen without delay. This is not always the case with HDMI connections, when changing from HDMI 1 to HDMI 2 LCDs can take up to 6 seconds to show content due to an HDCP authorisation routine which has to be performed each time a HDMI connection input is switched. INSTAPORT solves this problem. Normally HDCP authorisation is not initialled until the required source is selected, but this new technology performs the HDCP authorisation immediately upon connecting the device. Now when you change between HDMI connections on your television, the content will appear on screen in the same amount of time it takes to change the channel, yet another way in which Toshiba innovations are working to enhance and simplify your TV-watching experience.

Full Power Down
We have fitted an On/Off switch in response to the concerns expressed by many consumers who would prefer to turn their television off completely. All models are extremely energy efficient, but we take our responsibility to the environment seriously and will always do everything we can to minimise the impact our products have on our surroundings.

5.0 out of 5 stars A revelation.. read on for non techies, 9 May 2010
By Vultch (Belfast Ireland) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Toshiba Regza 46SV685DB 46-inch Widescreen 1080p Full HD LED TV 200Hz with Freeview (Electronics)
I don't actually have this the LED version i have the 47ZV635DB LCD (cold cathode backlight version)

This review is for non techies - there are two video formats at the moment, SD (standard definition) and HD (high definition). Now high def (blue ray etc) looks superb on most displays but my gripe was when I viewed normal TV stuff SD standard definition on any widescreen Plasma or LCD it looked terrible. Basically old TV pictures on a great big screen look terrible, smudged detail, peoples faces look like they have been coated with Vaseline, it really put me off a large screen display. So I hung onto my 32 inch CRT (old glass tube telly) Until now.
I had read about Toshiba (not the first company you would associate with quality and high tech) but they really have put the work in with their current range of sets. Their secret is called Resolution+ and basically what it does is to really improve (upscale) old telly to make it look good on big displays and by god it works well. Its the best upscaler I have scene on the domestic market.

In a shop i had an assistant put a cheap Tosh (£325) up against a £550 Samsung and £520 LG (all 32 inch sets) the Samsung was LED backlight model. In my opinion the cheapie tosh blew the other two away in Standard def, the source was BBC 1 freeview a cookery programme. With the other two sets peoples flesh or face tones looked weird or blurred. But this little Tosh (50Hz) basic model had by far the best picture, Skin detail looked by far the most natural.

I bought the top dog 47 inch 200Hz Metabrain etc blah blah set and if you feed this thing a descent SD picture of Sky etc.. etc its looks damm good ...almost HD (I will get slated for that comment).

Really i am stunned by how good the Tosh makes everything look. (theres a lot of very clever electronics in their sets (put a Sony badge on and triple the price) Tosh have used cell processor technology from one of their other divisions in this set lots of number crunching and it pays off.

The cosmetic appearance is not bad, yes other sets look more attractive, but none will match picture quality... If picture quality is more important than the cosmetic appearance to you.... really give the Tosh a look.

To sum up..the best upscaler on the market by far....
